My First Look At Top Cat
ccthemovieman-16 November 2006
This was my first look EVER at the short-lived animated TV series, Top Cat. I saw the DVD on sale at a wholesale place and took a gamble by buying it, sight-unseen. Whether that was a smart move, only time will tell. After the first episode, I am not so sure. I didn't really find it that funny. It's not stupid, but it's not a lot of laughs, either. I found it just kind of a blah story. Well, better than "blah" but so-so, at best. I am wondering if the humor comes on a little stronger in subsequent episodes.

A big reason I bought this was that it was based on THE PHIL SILVERS SHOW, otherwise known as BILKO. That program, featuring Silvers as the con-man Sgt. Bilko, was A LOT of laughs. I am hoping I see the same here. One thing, it was odd hearing "Doberman's" voice (Maurice Gosfeld). He was a character on "Bilko", and had a voice you could never forget, so it will be fun listening to him. Arnold Stang, who voices "Top Cat," did not sound like the Arnold Stang I remember from the candy bar commercials and such. He had a funny and distinctive voice back then, but I didn't hear that in this first episode.

Odd for somebody my age (60) watching this cartoon.....and for first time. Am I nuts? (don't answer)
