- Peter and Sally-Ann Beaumont are invited by NASA to witness Explorer One, a space probe, landing back on Earth after collecting radioactive soil samples. The Sandman steals the radiation to make himself more powerful. Spider-Man is unable to beat him, and Peter is blamed by Sally-Ann by not being around while Spider-Man was fighting the Sandman. He now faces explosion from the college, and the Sandman starts to rip off banks. Peter must expose his identity to the school board to safe face if he wishes to stay in college. But he must also stop the Sandman.
- Peter and his rival Sally Ann Beaumont are selected by the Science Committee at ESU to represent them during a NASA mission to retrieve soil samples from a Mars Explorer Probe. The Probe is touching down today and they will be among the first to witness this historic event.
After touchdown the radioactive samples are stolen by The Sandman, who adds it to his unique physiology, increasing his powers. He uses these new powers to commit various crimes.
Spider-Man eventually lures him into a carwash which separates Sandman from the radioactive Martian soil. He then returns it to the Science Committee
