The Anthony Hickox production Knife Edge is finally making its U.S. debut via E1 Entertainment. The title streets on DVD April 20 and is the latest from the director of Waxwork and Hellraiser III . Nathalie Press plays a successful Wall Street trader who returns to England with her new husband and five-year-old son, but their new start together turns into a nightmare when they move into a country house which contains a terrible secret. Over the last decade, Hickox has been plowing through the action-thriller trenches with the likes of Steven Seagal, William Hurt, Vinnie Jones and Armand Assante. Knife marks a return to the scary stuff. And if all goes well, he'll be doing a creature feature next with a film called Catwalk .

“Knife Edge” sees the return to the horror genre of director Anthony Hickox, who back in the late 1980s and early 1990s turned out a string of popular, offbeat favourites including “Waxwork”, its sequel “Lost in Time”, and “Sundown: the Vampire in Retreat”, the latter two featuring the legendary Bruce Campbell. Although Hickox did have a stab at the relatively big time with “Hellraiser: Hell on Earth”, since then he had stuck mainly to television affairs and standard action films, such as the Eddie Griffin vehicle “Blast” and Steven Segal’s “Submerged”. With his being one of the more creative genre directors, who always managed to bring a certain sense of ghoulish fun to his productions, fans should certainly be glad to see him coming back to the fold, and although “Knife Edge” is not a particularly great film by his standards, it is still a cut above the usual direct to DVD drudgery.

Due to the holidays and our server migration just after the first of the year, the Wrap-Up has been on a bit of a hiatus. Well, we're back now -- a year older but still bigger and badder than ever. Let's take a look at what went down during the week of January 10-16, 2009.
Along with the New Year, we got a new Cold Spots, something that always warms the cockles of my heart! Take a trip with Scott to Billy’s Bar and Grill in Aberdeen, Washington, for another of his ghostly tales.
The trailer for the Last House on the Left redux found its way online, and I have to say it looks promising. Not great by any means, but not sucking is certainly better than what most of us were expecting.
Unfortunately, hardly anyone has such high hopes for Halloween 2, but a couple of Zombie's casting choices...

Show of hands: Who out there is an Anthony Hickox fan? I'm more of an enthusiast of his late-'80s/early-'90s work than the crop that showed up in and around his Contaminated Man years. Still, if he's in production on something, I like to know. It's been nearly two years since we first reported on his thriller Knife Edge and not only do we have a fleshed-out synopsis, but a trailer - which we're guessing was prepped for the American Film Market - has appeared online as well. Synopsis: Blissfully happy in her new marriage to Henry, Emma has agreed to give up a successful career on Wall Street to return to England and give her 6-year-old son, Thomas, a new life. Henry has already chosen and purchased their dream home: an impressive mansion house miles from the city, Parkside...

Upcoming Film Scores lists the ten most exciting, promising and anticipated film scores of 2009, according to its editor Mikael Carlsson who can't wait to hear what will come out musically of these projects:
1. Avatar (James Horner)
Director James Cameron and composer James Horner are of course best known for the multi-zillion-whatever-megahit Titanic, but they also gave us Aliens in 1986 which stands out as one of the most exciting nailbiter scores in sci-fi history. On that film, Cameron gave Horner a pretty hard time as judging from the composer interview on the special edition DVD, and basically what you hear in the film is the result of a composer writing under enormous pressure. On Avatar, the situation is the complete opposite. A luxury in film scoring today, the total time given to the scoring process on this film will probably exceed one year! Horner is currently working exclusively on this film,...

British composer Guy Farley, who recently had his score for the Richard Gere thriller The Flock released by MovieScore Media, is currently working on the original orchestral score for Clive Barker's Book of Blood, produced by the author and directed by John Harrison, a filmmaker who is also known as a film composer in his own right (Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside). Farley, who is best known for his melodic scores (Modigliani, Madre Teresa, The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey) has recently focused on darker subjects (The Flock is one example, The Broken and Knife Edge two others) and is writing for an orchestra excluding violins, featuring among other instruments ethnic flutes and percussion, a low brass quartet (tuba, cimbasso, contrabass trombone, bass trombone) and the unusual instrument Monochord. Recording should take place in London later this month. The film is produced by UK's Matador Pictures and stars Jonas Armstrong,...
