Doctor Who: The Two Doctors: Part 2 starts as the Doctor (Colin Baker) & his companion Peri (Nicola Bryant) discover that one of his old companions Jamie (Frazer Hines) has been hiding in the Space Station Camera, Jamie is convinced his Doctor (Patrick Troughton) has been killed by Sontaran's while the other Doctor is sure he hasn't. The current Doctor manages to trace his old self to a Villa in Seville in Spain where he is being held prisoner by the genetically altered Androgum Chessene (Jacqueline Pearce) the genetic scientist Dastari (Laurence Payne) & Group Marshal Stike (Clinton Greyn) of the ninth Sontaran battle group. Dastari plans to experiment on the Doctor in order to discover the Time Lord's symbolic nuclei within his genes which is the key to stable & unlimited time travel, can the current Doctor save his old self & stop time travel falling into the wrong hands...
Episode 8 from season 22 this Doctor Who adventure was originally aired in the UK during Februray 1985, directed by Peter Moffatt I must admit I'm rather liking The Two Doctors so far despite the often venomous comments it seems to inspire. The script by Robert Holmes is quite fun & has a somewhat dark edge to it, the scene in which Shockeye (John Sratton) catches a rat & starts to eat it seems out of place & rather gory for what is essentially a children's show but I'm not complaining as I always liked Doctor Who when it tries to mix horror & sci-fi, there's also this slightly sinister & disturbing running theme of cannibalism as Shockeye wants to kill & eat a human. The Two Doctors is quite amusing as well, Shockeye's question to Dastari & his reply to if he has ever eaten a Sontaran is pretty funny, the dialogue between Peri, Jamie & the current Doctor is often witty & fun to listen to. The story is moving along at a reasonable pace even if it isn't the most incident packed episode, the Sontaran's are somewhat underused here & seem to be here for the sake of having a monster although their presence is still welcome.
The Two Doctors was filmed partly on location in Seville in Spain after the initial location of New Orleans proved to expensive, it makes a nice enough location but it's just a house & Spain isn't really shown off to any degree. I still can't get over how bad Dastari's glasses look while Peri is as cute as ever. Despite being called The Two Doctors again like Part 1 they never actually meet in this episode. Director Moffatt ruined the introduction of the Sontaran's during Part 1 & again here he ruins the scene which reveals Dastari is still alive & he is in fact the one behind it all, this could have been a good dramatic twist but a weak reveal with no build up means the opportunity was wasted.
The Two Doctors: Part 2 is another enjoyable episode in a good story that I actually like despite many not, still we are all entitled to an opinion & if you don't agree with mine, tough!
