This two-reel offering is worthy of especial commendation from the fact that it tells a story that is different and appealing. The character of the old miser is acted most admirably and lifts the whole picture into a class by itself. The theme is not new, but it is consistently worked out, and we can plainly see the manner in which the pretty young niece finds her way into his heart. The sharp engagement between the Indians and soldiers in the second reel gave the hero his chance to prove himself worthy of the girl's hand. A good offering. - The Moving Picture World, May 17, 1913
