Another episode back on par

After a string of disappointing episodes they really picked up in time for the season finale (which is next week). In "Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody's Ass," Dennis begins smoking in the bar, which upsets Charlie and Dee, who both think smoking should be illegal. As Charlie and Dee start campaigning to be pro-American and anti-smoking, Mac, Dennis and Frank decide to take advantage of the New Orleans disaster by opening a "New Orleans bar" - where anything goes and there are no restrictions on freedom.

But soon, as they realize, absolute freedom has a price when people begin going wild and Frank's Vietnam buddies start playing Russian roulette in the basement.

This is one of the better episodes. It's a satirical statement on blind American patriotism, but it also realizes that freedom can never be completely "free" or people will take advantage of it.

As a political comment it's surprisingly effective - if not as subtle as other episodes - and the jokes are very funny. Charlie running out into the street yelling "Attaca!" is going to go down as one of the season highlights.

I can't wait for the finale next week.

Great writing and hilarious acting...

Warning: Spoilers
So I just got done watching one of the most well-written shows you can find on television these days... It's always sunny in Philadelphia. They had this episode "Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody's Ass " that tried exploring what this country is about and was one of the funniest, most entertaining pieces I have seen on TV in a while. I am not the smartest guy in the world, but even I picked up on the metaphors.

When Charlie and Dee meet some anti-smoking protesters at the protest I felt it kind of made fun of that b.s. Truth campaign you see on TV as its revealed that the protesters are actors and smoke themselves.

And, at the bar, when they encountered the issue of the Asian thugs that sat to themselves in the corner playing cards and the question of segregation came up... that was great writing and pretty funny. I cant remember the dialog right now but it involved Stalin and deciding what to do with the sociopaths and weather to segregate them...they eventually all moved down to the basement.... a metaphor for America's underground, while the innocent, happy party people stayed in the main(stream) bar.

By the end of the episode the bar was full of heroin addicts and incestuous siblings and the question came up of what is too much freedom, and if America is truly about just giving up on society and being free to do what you want.... great stuff. We must all take responsibility for our actions because to be free is not enough.

PS. It brings a smile to my face to know that Danny DeVito is still doing great work.
