This DVD "extra" actually consists of three parts . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . the first of which goes by the title listed here, and which lasts 10 minutes, 20.5 seconds. During this piece, GOLDENEYE director Martin Campbell states that this feature flick was a grueling 110-day shoot. (THE MARTIN CHRONICLES, by the way, is a title NOT explained here, which is sort of "par for the course" regarding offerings from the Eon Production Company. It apparently is a play on words, alluding to Ray Bradbury's 1950 science fiction short stories collection, THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES, which I've read. Most porn movie titles are much more apt and clever examples of wordplay than this, but maybe Britain has lamer titles for X-rated movies than America does, as well.) Pierce Brosnan swears by Mr. Campbell here ("I've worked with too many other directors who were mere traffic cops; they weren't prepared; they didn't know what they wanted" from actors, Eon's Bond #5 discloses). GOLDENEYE DP Phil Meheux allows that Campbell's native New Zealand is most renowned for its sheep. Meheux then provides a spot-on sheep call.

Part two of DIRECTING BOND lasts 65.42 seconds, and is titled THE MONTE CARLO SHORT. I rated this piece of footage as "5" of 10, since it adds nothing to the longer Part One. GOLDENEYE director Martin Campbell simply says that in Monte Carlo "I was very bad tempered; you can see in the documentary that I'm swearing and cursing--(unleashing) a cacophony of bad words." Izabella Scorupco (Natalya) in visible here on a yacht in the background, if you look closely.

The third part of THE MARTIN CHRONICLES, titled PHIL MEHEUX and lasting just 53.12 seconds, consists of GOLDENEYE director Martin Campbell praising his DP and friend Meheux from an inset box to the lower right of the screen as Meheux is performing his sheep call. I rate this part "6" of 10.
