- The USS Enterprise explores the center of the galaxy, looking for the heart of creation. The theory is that is the galaxy was created by an explosion then the heart of the galaxy must be creating new matter.
When a matter-energy whirlwind grips the ship (grappling the ship and propelling it to warp 6 speeds and accelerating.. Kirk decides to take the ship into the eye of the storm to escape its worst effects. This is when the Enterprise travels through a worm hole) (Here the normal laws of our Universe don't apply. The Enterprise loses navigation, communications, engines, life support everything), a satyr calling himself Lucien (James Doohan) appears and saves them. The ship starts working again miraculously. Lucien takes Kirk, Spock and McCoy to the magical, alternate dimension planet of Megas-Tu. The planet works on what Humans know as magic. All the woman are young and beautiful (as much they want to be) and every man has a castle to live in. Lucien reveals that Megas people are unique (peaceful and contemplative. Each having their own style & type of magic) and several thousand years ago they left their planet (through an inter-dimensional portal) to search for companionship (as they were alone in their own universe) and reached Earth. They helped the human ancestors as their advisers, but eventually had to leave. But Lucien wont say why the Megans left Earth and tries to keep them hidden from his fellow Megans.
Back on the enterprise (where nothing but the life support systems are working), Spock theorizes that in this Universe humans are able to perform magic and demonstrates that by moving chess pieces with the power of his mind (belief is as potent a force as energy and matter in this universe). But as Humans use magic, their brain waves are tracked by Megans. When the Megans discover the presence of humans, they pull the Enterprise into the atmosphere of their planet. The Megans put the humans on trial - the same way as they themselves were when they visited Earth centuries earlier in Salem, Massachusetts 1691. The planet is miraculously transformed into Salem and the humans are held captive. The Megans reveal that they visited Earth several thousand years ago. They went as friends but humans tried to use them for their own greed and lust. When they refused, the human spread hatred against them (by calling them devils, warlocks and evil sorcerers). Megans settled in Salem, but used their powers and were burnt as witches.
Spock decides to volunteer as defense counsel. He brings Lucien as witness who says humans share and learn, but Megans stay within the confines of their own knowledge. Kirk adds that humans have changed since Salem and have evolved as a species (he offers the records of the Enterprise as proof of humanity's evolution and progress). The Megans are satisfied that the Enterprise's arrival in their dimension is an accident and unlikely to be repeated. Thus Megans are not under threat of attack from the humans. Megans convict Lucien for betraying Megans by bringing Humans to their planet and sentence him to eternal isolation. Kirk fights this and a war of magic erupts between him and the Megan prosecutor. Kirk uses magic, upon being encouraged by Spock. Kirk fights for Lucien and this convinces Megans that humans have grown as a species. This last was a test of the intentions of the humans and Kirk's compassion was that proof. They let everyone free and promise Kirk that they will welcome humans if they visit them next.
The Enterprise returns to its own dimension
