Due to the Canadian laws against product placements, all products in this show are referred to by generic names, but at the same time, little effort is made to hide logos and brand names on the featured products. However, the end credits have a "Thanks to" which lists the companies involved.
The series has avoided making a show about itself; however, they have done a promo for the show, showing how the show is made.
The show sometimes notes that they cannot reveal certain ingredients of some food or chemical products due to them being trade secrets. The best example of this is the "Marshmallow Cookies" segment, in which the narrator just has to crack a joke about how much of the process they aren't allowed to explain because the company won't let them.
The show used to have the "History Capsule" segment, which describes the historic background preceding the last featured product of each episode. This segment lasted until Season 5 where it is removed.
In the U.K. version, the narrator breaks his character sometimes. For example, at the end of the "Doughnuts" segment, he said, "Sorry, I'm hungry now, gotta go."
