One Show For Everybody
yareufollowingme6 November 2009
Of all the shows I've seen, this is certainly One of them.

With it's mix of serious segments and trivial fun it really bridges the gap between Mastermind and Hollyoaks. If you're a person who liked Blue Peter as a child then you'll enjoy the One Show.

Hosted by the lovely Christine Blakely and the effervescent Adrian Chiles the show swings between hand bitingly dull and simply sublime. The two presenters dovetail together nicely, with Christine's cheer counter balancing Adrian 's dour melancholy.

An aspect of the show that has come under critique is their selection of guests. Seeing guests such as Sir David Attenborough sat next to Dom "Don't Get Done, Get Dom" Littlewood is justification for your license fee in itself. But getting them to improvise a conversation about a cat that can drive a quad bike is pure T.V gold.

In conclusion, The One Show is a difficult beast to review. It's the John O'Shea of T.V. A Jack of all trades but master of none.

Rolling 30 minutes of just about the most prime time airtime in the UK, given to sycophantic, faux adoration and bootlicking of Z list shamelessly plugging their latest tatt all at our expense.

What happened here ?

This used to be an entertaining, light hearted magazine show with some good guests and features - Then it fell victim to the moralising box tickers and now constantly pushes social justice till it hurts. There's barely a single item on the programme that doesn't have a bias or preachy underlying message, it's like they are constantly needling the viewer be it through carefully chosen charity appeals or guests selected to push their viewpoint. A party political broadcast for the socially bewildered masquerading as a family show.

Useless , zero charm

Alex has zero charm, unpleasant voice . Therefore that show is wasted by having her as a presenter. So many lovely presenters could be amazing at that role !

I found myself turning the TV off.

Go read a book for something actually interesting compared to bland "I love everything" presenters.

This show was enjoyable with Adrian and Christine and all they had to do was talk. Now I will not let anyone even leave it on in the background as they wait for Eastenders.

This is what happens when you have a broadcaster that has guaranteed income regardless of quality.

Move to subscription model now!

The review requires a minimum number of lines and it is unfair on concise people contending with dyslexia. Pad. Pad.

Master of survival?
philerritty9 November 2009
Whilst I agree the One (and only) show is a jack-of-all-trades, I would argue that it is a master one thing: Survival. Great shows - good shows - OK, tolerable shows always land on their feet in times of adversity.

What am I referring to? We all remember Carol Thatcher's disgraceful backstage antics. we can all remember the embarrassing headlines: "Thatcher banished from The'Wog'Show", "once a Thatcher, always a Thatcher". Yet despite her shocking onslaught, the One show kept it's head up, dealt with the situation and now is as healthy as ever. "The One show must go on" springs to mind.

The One show survived Carol Thatcher, it survived Hardeep Singh. Any show that can survive as many assassination attempts as Fidel Castro deserves a place in the hearts and minds of the British viewing public.

What a fantastic presentation from Maggie. Aderin Pocock!

It is wonderful to hear about the amazing things that go on - and this was one of them - Maggie being involved in the amazing project.

I found the explanations of the photo of the Super Nova astounding. This high brow knowledge was explained and simplified .

Maggie is clever, knowledgeable and shares her enthusiasm about space.

Let's have more of these kind of features!

Lots of filler
DavidYZ20 April 2017
This isn't worthy of its prime-time slot on BBC One. Most episodes are 30 minutes, but some are a hour.

The show is a mish-mash of various things, most of which are trivial, silly or dull. It often quickly switches from a serious topic to a light-hearted or silly one (or vice versa) - which makes for uncomfortable continuity.

Some of the presenters it's had are dreadful. Adrian Chiles and Matt Baker are boring; Christine Lampard is patronising and annoying.

The One Show

With all the issues going on over at ITV with 'This Morning' actually 'The One Show' is benefitting hugely, as it continues to be a consistently warm and familiar programme.

Headed these days by Alex Jones, who provides that anchor, it continues to be informative, warm stuff, though massively biased towards the BBC and its programmes.

Isn't ITV's 'This Morning' just an excuse at times for celebs to come on and promote their book/album/play though?

The BBC needs programmes like this in its roster, and I hope they continue to give it the exposure it deserves moving forwards.

It'll never convince me Jermaine Jenas is a TV presenter though...
