The Vampire Diaries was never intended to be a period drama, and no one expected it to be historically accurate. However, since the main characters of the series are vampires who can technically live forever, it was clear from the very first season that the chronology of events would not be limited to modern times.
At first, flashbacks showed viewers the Salvatore brothers' youth in the 19th century, but then the Originals, who were several hundred years old, were introduced into the story. Fans were sent back to very ancient times, and the historical inaccuracies made by the writers could no longer be ignored.
Why Were All The Mikaelsons Were Single?
We don’t know the Mikaelsons’ exact ages, but some calculations still can be made. Thus, we can conclude that all members of the Mikaelson family were between 16 and 27 years old at the time of them being turned into vampires.

“I knew from the moment I read the first drafts of the script that this show was something special,” admits Jess Hong about her first starring role in “3 Body Problem.” The hit Netflix sci-fi drama was co-created by multiple Emmy-winning “Game of Thrones” duo David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who serve as co-creators and producers with writer/producer Alexander Woo (“True Blood”). For our recent webchat she adds, “I was reading the draft scripts at home alone in my bed, and I was laughing and crying, and so enthralled by these characters, the relationships and of course the epic storytelling.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Joe Manganiello recently said that he’s always “on the lookout for a good werewolf script” because he feels he has some unfinished business from his days of playing a werewolf on HBO series True Blood – but while we wait to see if and when he’s going to end up making a werewolf movie, Deadline reports that he has signed on to star in and produce a zombie thriller called Mountain Man.
Mountain Man is based on a series of novels written by Keith C. Blackmore. There are currently three books in that series, so if the movie is well-received there is some franchise potential here.
John Lee, whose previous credits include False Positive and Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, is set to direct the film from a screenplay by Matt Deller. Mountain Man will tell the story of Gus, a lonely post-apocalyptic survivor facing isolation and the...

This article contains massive spoilers for "Abigail."
"Abigail" features a group of six mercenaries holding the eponymous girl (Alisha Weir) hostage in a manor. Who's really in the mousetrap here, though?
The trailer gave it all away, but Abigail is a vampire and has brought this group of six together for a feast — one they won't be leaving. It's like the inversion of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett's previous mansion survival thriller, "Ready or Not." In that one, Grace (Samara Weaving), recently married into the wealthy Le Domas family, has to dodge her new in-laws as they play the most dangerous game. In "Abigail," a single, seemingly fragile girl hunts a group of people.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett previously directed "Scream" V and VI (Barrera starred in those movies before she was fired from "Scream" VII for pro-Palestine posts); "Abigail" inherits the meta-horror touch of "Scream." When the characters find out what Abigail is,...

The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. The actor will also produce the upcoming zombie movie.
“Mountain Man tells the story of Gus, a lonely post-apocalyptic survivor facing isolation and the ever-present specter of a zombie attack, who struggles with alcohol abuse and suicidal thoughts until he discovers another survivor, a captivating woman who poses another threat altogether.”
John Lee (False Positive) will direct Mountain Man from a script by Matt Deller.
“John is a brilliant creative mind. We’ve been looking for the right thing to do together since we filmed Pee Wee’s Big Holiday and it’s finally here,” 3:59’s Joe and Nick Manganiello told Deadline. “Very excited to get to work on such weird, wild project with him.”

Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before: Some criminals abduct a rich guy’s child and demand a hefty sum to give the youngster back. The “victim” then proceeds to make life hell for the kidnappers. It’s more or less the plot of The Ransom of Red Chief, arguably O. Henry’s best-known work. And like a lot of people who’ve read this enduring staple of school-reading curricula over the decades, you probably got to the final paragraph (“And as dark as it was,...

If there was one thing that was going to tempt movie-goers into cinemas for some mid-budget vampire action in 2003, it was probably Bill Nighy as a vampire overlord. Or, was it the marketing campaign featuring a leather clad Kate Beckinsale? I’ll let you decide… The early noughties had already brought some decent vampire action, before we were subjected to the shimmering embarrassment to the genre that was the Twilight saga. We were also just a few short years away from seeing some proper kick-ass, sexy vampire action on the small screen with Hbc’s excellent True Blood series. The vampire genre was starting to show some signs of a re-awakening, and films such as the fun but flawed Queen of the Damned from 2002 and, of course, the awesome Blade series, were leading the bloodsucking way.
Vampires have always been a popular form of escapism for audiences and they’re still massively popular now.

According to The Wrap, Pruitt Taylor-Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn’s Superman. I can’t say that’s who I expected to play Clark Kent’s adoptive human father in the movie, but I’ve always been a big fan of the actor, who has appeared in everything from The X-Files to Deadwood to The Walking Dead.
Pruitt Taylor-Vince will join the long line of actors who have brought Jonathan Kent to life in movies and television, including Glenn Ford in the original Superman movie, John Schneider in Smallville, Kevin Costner in Man of Steel, and many more. As I mentioned above, Taylor-Vince might not feel like the obvious choice for the role, but he’s a true talent and I hope fans give him a chance.

Anna Paquin has praised Stephen Moyer as an "exceptionally talented" director. The 41-year-old actress portrays alcoholic mother Ella in his husband's new movie 'A Bit of Light' and she found it "really hot" seeing him work because he is so knowledgeable and had a very clear vision for the film.In a joint interview with Et's 'Spilling the E-Tea', she told her spouse: "You are exceptionally talented. You think in images and storytelling and camera angles and you know the inside and out of every single aspect of making a film or TV show and that's really hot."Anna joked she had been cast in the film because of her ability to "ugly cry on camera".Asking Stephen, 54, what had impressed him about her performance, he said: "When I read 'A Bit of Light' for the first time, it was a play, and I thought it would make a wonderful screenplay.

Anna Paquin’s acting journey began on a high note after she landed the role of Flora McGrath in the 1993 historical drama The Piano. Marking her feature film debut, the movie was a huge hit and earned three Oscars, including Best Supporting Actress for Paquin, making her one of the youngest actors ever to receive such an honor.

She has since continued to demonstrate her acting prowess in numerous films. However, winning the industry’s most prestigious award for her first film at 11 was undoubtedly overwhelming for the young star. Later in an interview, Paquin reflected on her emotions at the time and recounted how she nearly violated an Oscar protocol after receiving her award.

Actor and X-Men star Anna Paquin won an Academy Award at a very early age. But after receiving the coveted prize, she became a little self-conscious with the idea of being an Oscar-winner.

Halle Berry wasn’t the only Oscar-winner who was a part of Fox’s original X-Men franchise. Anna Paquin, who played the young mutant Rogue, also knew what it was like to win the trophy. She won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 1993 movie The Piano. She was only 11-years-old at the time, and perhaps what made her win more impressive was that it was her first feature film.
Paquin had no ambitions to be an actor at the time of her victory. She was only interested in the role because it meant she could take time off from school.

Ask Bruce Campbell, and he’ll tell you he’s “sick of over-trained heroes. I’m really bored with that. Guys that are just ripped to shreds and, you know, full of skills. That’s boring to me. Give me the mechanic that picks up a weapon, you know? Now I’m interested. That’s my hero. That could be me.”
Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise is that hero. Part of the lasting appeal of the best character Bruce Campbell has ever played is that the audience can see themselves in him, like if they were pressed into fighting an army of Deadites, they could take up the mantle, the chainsaw, the boomstick, and mow down wave after wave of the undead masses.
He is a man that should have been an A-List superstar and in the eyes of his fanbase he is…. which is all that really matters in the end.

Sue Naegle and Ali Krug are re-teaming for a new venture.
The former Annapurna duo and longtime collaborators have launched Dinner Party Productions and signed a multiple-year overall deal with Universal Content Productions.
Naegle, the former content chief at Megan Ellison’s company, and Krug, who was co-head of TV alongside her at Annapurna, will develop and produce new projects for UCP for both NBCUniversal-owned platforms as well as third-party buyers.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Naegle and Krug — who have worked together for 13 years — said the appeal of being able to sell to outside buyers was part of why they wanted to sign with the Beatrice Springborn-led division that is housed within Pearlena Igbokwe’s Universal Studio Group. (Read the Q&a, below.)
As part of the pact, Naegle and Krug have boarded Peacock’s adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-seller The Five-Star Weekend.

Anna Paquin made her first red carpet appearance in more than a year in New York City on Wednesday, April 3 as she promoted her and husband Stephen Moyer‘s latest film, A Bit of Light. Meeting your partner’s parents is stressful and intimidating at the best of times, but at least it allows you a glimpse into their roots and values. That’s certainly the case when Jin (Jess Hong) meets her boyfriend Raj Varma’s (Saamer Usmani) family in Episode 3. A naval officer who was at the top of his class at the Royal Naval College, Raj comes from a military family — his father was the captain of...

Anna Paquin is telling the truth about those scenes in “True Blood.”
The sultry HBO series, which debuted in 2008 and concluded in 2014, marked when Paquin met now-husband and co-star Stephen Moyer, who later began directing episodes. The duo told The Post that things in fact did not get “awkward” despite Moyer having to oversee intimate sequences involving wife Paquin and fellow actors Joe Manganiello and Alexander Skarsgard.
“Stephen cut his teeth directing [on ‘True Blood’] and by Season 3 or 4, it would be like, ‘Hi honey, who are you fucking on camera today?'” Paquin said. “Steve started directing me when we were on ‘True Blood,’ and in Season 7, our final season, he directed the season opener, which had [my character] Sookie in love with the giant beautiful werewolf, Joe Manganiello. Steve directed us in a rather explicit sex scene, so when you ask if it is awkward to shoot a movie with your husband,...

Very few people in show business have a better understanding of what it takes to spearhead a massive, multimillion dollar production on the scale of "3 Body Problem" than showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo. Benioff and Weiss guided "Game of Thrones" to eight total seasons, many of which included the most expensive installments of television ever committed to the small screen at the time, while Woo served as producer and writer on "True Blood." With so many moving parts to keep track of and so many urgent matters demanding attention at any given time, in all honesty, it's not terribly shocking that even this top creative team would have to scramble at the last minute to include a scene of utmost narrative importance.

“The Judgment Day sequence in the book was one of those ones that we talked about before where you just think, ‘Oh man, I really want to see that on-screen [and] see it done right,’ ” says Benioff. There is no denying that theaters are losing their charm thanks to streaming platforms like Netflix. People now would much rather prefer paying a monthly fee and enjoying more content than ever before in the comfort of their own homes. Now, it takes films like Barbie and Oppenheimer to drive people to theater halls and experience cinema first-hand.

As if this was not enough, director and producer Judd Apatow recently gave his two cents on the state of television today and how shows are just getting recycled over and over again thanks to licensing pacts between streaming platforms. Judd Apatow expressed his worries that if things keep going on like this, it might lead to fewer new shows and television becoming more of a business than art.

So, the universe just winked. Now what?
The first episode of the sci-fi mystery 3 Body Problem — created by Game of Thrones’ David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and True Blood writer Alexander Woo —introduced us to the brainy Oxford Five, a cunning Chinese scientist, and an otherworldly phenomenon in which all the stars in the sky inexplicably flickered.
“Between climate change and the pandemic, we’ve gotten a glimpse into how people in the world react differently to a global threat,” Weiss told Netflix. “We see a similar spectrum of reactions in 3 Body Problem.”
As the laws of nature unravel before their eyes, the close-knit group of brilliant scientists realize there may be something sinister behind it all. “All sorts of strange things have been happening,” says Benioff. “Scientists have been killing themselves in unusual ways. Scientific experiments have been failing for unknown reasons.”

Netflix‘s 3 Body Problem may have a problem—a good one, says costar Alex Sharp. “I’ve spoken to a few people who are like, ‘Oh, I can’t wait to binge it!’ And I almost feel like saying, ‘Don’t binge it because there’s so much in each episode.’ And I know the story back to front,” jokes the actor, who plays sweetly introverted physics teacher Will Downing. “But when I watched it for the first time, I found myself wanting to just sit with one episode at a time and just kind of absorb what I’d seen.” Makes total sense, seeing how this big-budget adaptation based on the sci-fi book series by Liu Cixin—and exec produced by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo (True Blood)—is as dense as it is dazzling. Telling concurrent tales set in 1960s China and modern-day London,...

“3 Body Problem,” the sprawling and ambitious new sci-fi-ish geopolitical mystery drama Netflix series from “Game Of Thrones” creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo, is difficult to describe in any kind of succinct form—perhaps your first clue about its overall problems. And indeed, there’s a fine line between complex and convoluted.

Along with him, it’s now confirmed that his co-stars Deborah Ann Woll and Eldon Henson, including most of the major stars from Netflix’s Defenders universe, will make an appearance. And supporting that claim, Ann Woll recently teased how the reunion of her character Karen Page with Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle might be imminent.

David Benioff and Db Weiss, having conquered the fantasy genre with Game of Thrones, could have recruited pretty much any talent they desired for their latest project – a big-budget adaptation of Liu Cixi’s sci-fi novel, Three-Body Problem, which comes to Netflix this week.
However, one person remained immune to their powers of persuasion, with the creative pair revealing that former president Barack Obama turned down their bid for him to make a cameo appearance.
Benioff told USA today that they, along with fellow show-runner Alexander Woo (who previously created vampire drama True Blood), had made the request after learning Obama was a big fan of the original novel: “He did sign a very funny note, when we tried to get him for a cameo. It was to the effect of, ‘In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for that crisis.

CBS’s new midseason drama Elsbeth returns to the network’s primetime lineup with an episode that features guest stars Linda Lavin and Jane Krakowski. Season one episode two, “A Classic New York Character,” will air on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at 9pm Et/Pt. Episode three, “Reality Shock,” follows at 10pm Et/Pt.
The new primetime drama kicked off with an episode that featured a friend of Carrie Preston’s, Stephen Moyer. During a press conference prior to the premiere, Preston talked about reuniting with her True Blood co-star.
“You know, True Blood, I mean, it holds a special special place in my heart. My career sort of took off in a way that it hadn’t before that show, and so we all bonded. We made True Blood kind of in a vacuum, and then it aired. […] We weren’t even together. So, we all like bonded over that show,...

Exclusive: Karolina Wydra (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has landed a lead role opposite Rhea Seehorn in the upcoming Apple TV+ series from Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan, Deadline has learned. The untitled project, described as a blended, grounded genre drama, has a two-season straight-to-series order.
Per usual, Gilligan is keeping all information about the show under lock and key, so Apple TV+ and producing studio Sony Pictures Television declined comment.
Believed to be a departure from the world of drugs and crime he explored in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the new series has been jokingly nicknamed “Breaking Good.”
“After 15 years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes… and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?” Gilligan said at the time of the series’ announcement.
A fun, mild sci-fi series told through the point of view of Seehorn’s character,...
