A gift exchange, a friendly game of backyard soccer, a yummy turkey feast — Christmas with the royals isn’t too far off from how the rest of the world celebrates the season. Well, except for the fact that granny has to set aside time to address the nation in her annual speech on Christmas Day.

Source: Getty Queen Elizabeth II has officially departed London to prepare for her Christmas break, so we thought it was a great time to take a look at how the royal family traditionally celebrates the holidays. Unfortunately for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, Christmas with Granny doesn't mean they'll be spending the holidays in a relaxed family atmosphere. In fact, Christmas at the queen's official Winter retreat, Sandringham, is a different beast altogether. The Protocol Source: The Sandringham Estate While most of us think of Christmas as being a quiet, casual time at home, the holidays are hardly a low-key affair for the royals. Attendees to the queen's Christmas celebrations are required to adhere to court protocol,...

Though there are few things on this planet that are more delicious than cheese, there's no denying that some varieties taste a whole lot better than they smell. The disgusting truth is that many of the most foul smelling cheeses have on them species of bacteria that are quite similar to the bacteria found on the human body, which explains why unclean individuals are often described as having a 'cheesy' smell. Are you grossed out yet? Because if so, I must warn you that this post is about to get a whole lot more disgusting!
As part of an exhibition in Dublin, Ireland called Grow Your Own...Life After Nature, which is all about synthetic life, biologist Christina Agapakis and odor artist Sissel Tolaas worked together to create one of the more revolting art displays of all time, using human bacteria to make their own super stinky blend of cheese.

The BBC just can’t compete with HBO’s deep pockets (Behind the Candelabra), but they still can get some great stars on the screen. Hot on the heels of Liz & Dick – Lifetime’s sentimental take on the love story of Hollywood’s tabloid darlings of the 60s, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton – BBC Four have released the first trailer for their TV biopic which stars Helena Bonham Carter (The Lone Ranger, Les Miserables) and Dominic West (The Wire, The Hour), penned by William Ivory (Made In Dagenham) and directed by Richard Laxton (Grow Your Own). Though the titles are similar, Burton & Taylor has Liz...

Hinchcliffe and Holmes begin the golden age of Who gothic...
The gothic horror era of Doctor Who is rightly touted as one of the best in the programme’s history. If you think that Doctor Who 2010-style is creepy, then try any of the stories that went out in the mid-1970s. Shrouded in dark gloom, with as much brutal death as you can get away with at teatime on Saturday night, the gothic horror stories met the main remit of scaring kids with considerable style and conviction.
It’s all thanks to producer Philip Hinchcliffe and script editor Robert Holmes. Hinchcliffe’s desire to produce a more adult version of Who totally melded with Holmes’ rather cynical, hard-edged stories. However, Holmes had actually joined the show in 1973, when he was assigned to provide uncredited script editing duties for Pertwee’s last few stories. And given that the first one...
