In a few short hours, Victoria's fate will be decided.

Warning: Spoilers
We're getting to the good stuff here as the story of Matthew's holding Victoria hostage makes its down turn towards the conclusion. David insists that his father listen to him in regards to the Matthew and Victoria situation, and it's clear that in spite of the fact that he is obviously a disturbed young kid, David does have a bit of a conscience. But the way that he deals with Roger is on David's terms, refusing to tell him anything until he gets Roger's promise that he won't get into trouble. David at times is a type of little boy that it would even have bad seed Rhoda Pembroke scared to deal with her.

It's ironic that the noise of a storm is affecting Collinwood but in the old house, all you hear at first is a shutter banging which is actually a ghostly presence. Matthew begins his final attempts to deal with Victoria, and all of a sudden, the thunder sound effects record is turned on.

The writers obviously enjoyed the dramatic reading of their lines through Thayer David because they give him some really good dialogue even as they prepare to write him out. The writers also attempt to give Victoria a calming presence, remaining strong even as she realizes that Matthew is preparing to kill her. The tension ratio of this episode is at its height, perhaps the most nail-biting since the series started.

A return to the spooky

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 125 marks a return to the spooky, which is all for the good and Malloy's spectre is straight out of a gothic nightmare. Elsewhere, there's good interplay between Matthew and Victoria, David and Roger, and Roger and Burke, making this one of the 'fullest' episodes in a while.
