Emily in Paris is returning for Season 4 with not only one but two official release dates. This trend going on with Netflix splitting schedules is already getting on the nerves of fans. Amazon Prime’s Invincible started this with its second season, and now Netflix is following in its footsteps with a couple of its new and upcoming projects.

It’s easy to forgive a lot in a romance if the chemistry is strong enough, and for the first couple episodes of Apple TV+’s Liaison, the sparks between Eva Green’s Alison and Vincent Cassel’s Gabriel seem reason enough to forge ahead. It hardly matters if we don’t really understand the international conspiracy that’s reunited these estranged exes, or that we don’t yet understand what transpired between them all those years ago. The smolder between them draws us in, even when all they’re doing is exchanging a wordless gaze through a rain-splattered window.
But without enough fuel to ignite a blaze, smolder is about as far as it gets. By the time Liaison stumbles to a close, whatever flickers of promise it showed early on have long since been stamped out by indifferent storytelling and a bloated run time.

Thrown into the limelight by the Oscar nomination for Maite Alberdi’s “The Mole Agent” in 2021, Chilean documentaries been growing in stature worldwide for years.
At Cannes, venerable Patricio Guzman world premieres his latest doc, “My Imaginary Country” (“Mi País Imaginario”) as a special screening, following on his lauded “The Cordillera of Dreams” which was awarded the 2019 L’œil d’Or award for Cannes’ best documentary. Matias Rojas’ “Our Memory” will be among the spotlighted projects at Cannes Docs. A Chilean Docs in Progress showcase, slated for May 23 at Cannes Doc Day, is creating considerable expectation.

Twenty projects from 19 countries have been selected for the 23rd edition of the Hot Docs Forum, the marquee feature financing event of the annual documentary festival, which runs in hybrid format from April 28 to May 8 in Toronto.
Of the projects’ 26 filmmakers, 14 are women, and 15 are Bipoc. Projects include stories around space rocks, solar power and crusading mushrooms, and process docs that follow characters in their homelands, schools and warzones over several years.
Over two days in advance of the festival, Forum project teams present their seven-minute pre-recorded pitches to a “round table” of decision-makers and financiers, from whom they then receive eight minutes of live feedback, which is also recorded.
The 2022 pitch presentations and decision-maker feedback are packaged and made available to registered delegates to stream on demand for the duration of the festival.

The angel Gabriel and God himself are entering the recording booth for a "Supernatural" rewatch and an accompanying podcast. Actors Richard Speight Jr. and Rob Benedict, who played those selfsame roles of Gabriel and God on the long-running WB and CW series, are launching "Supernatural: Then and Now," a podcast where they will wind their way back through 15 seasons and 327 episodes of television.
"Supernatural" ran for a full decade and a half, from 2005 to 2020, but according to Collider, the podcast will be a weekly affair, so Speight and Benedict could conceivably get through the series in about 6 years. Mark your calendars, then, from now until 2028.

A few weeks back, Daily Dead brought you the first part of our interview with James Wan for Malignant that was conducted during a special event held with select members of the press (you can read that interview Here). Because of the surprising nature of Malignant’s story, and the twists and turns it takes in the film’s latter half, we thought it was best to hold off on some of the more spoilery tidbits that Wan shared with us.
With that in mind, the following dives into some pretty big spoilers regarding Malignant and its soon-to-be (or maybe he is already) iconic villain Gabriel, and what it took to bring him to life for Wan’s latest horror offering. If you haven’t seen Malignant and want to avoid spoilers, I’d suggest returning to this article once you’ve have a chance to see Wan’s cinematic madness for yourself.

Eliza Hittman’s “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” won the top prize at Mexico’s Los Cabos Film Festival, adding the award to a brace of trophies dating back this year to a Silver Bear at Berlin and the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award in Sundance.
Tipped as a contender in 2021’s Oscar race, teen drama “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” was hailed by Variety as a “quietly devastating gem,” “both of a piece with, and a significant step forward from” Hittman’s prior youth-in-crisis works “Beach Rats” and “It Felt Like Love.”
Mexican writer-director Bruno Santamaría Razo’s “Things We Dare Not Do” won Los Cabos’ Cinecolor-Shalalá Award. The second doc feature from Bruno Santamaría Razo whose debut “Margarita” won a Mezcal Prize special mention at the 2016 Guadalajara Festival, “Things We Dare Not Do,” sits on the borderlands between documentary and fiction, it tells the story of a gay teen...

Strand Releasing has acquired North American distribution rights for “Africa,” Israeli director Oren Gerner’s personal story about an aging man learning to reinvent himself, Variety has learned.
“Africa” is the story of 68-year-old Meir, a retiree who discovers that after 30 years of planning the annual village celebration, the job has been given to an inexperienced group of local teens instead. As the ground beneath his feet gives way at this sudden upheaval, he begins to search for a way to restore a sense of meaning and vitality to his life.
The film stars the director’s father, Meir, as a semi-fictionalized version of himself, alongside other members of the Gerner family and their community in the Israeli town of Nirit. It takes its title from video footage of a trip to Africa taken by Gerner’s parents, which the helmer incorporates into the film.
In a director’s statement,...

A man of his word, Nelson certainly was a character on a mission.
From his dynamic introduction during The 100 Season 6 Episode 11, when he arrived on-screen to find out that he was following a false god, to his remarkable role throughout The 100 Season 7.
Nelson delivered a natural story of a follower on the verge of being a leader to those on the outside like him.
Lee Majdoub took on this character that was an extension of Gabriel's story and managed to develop him in a way that captivated the audience.
It was impossible not to feel for Nelson's journey, one that was full of pain and wants and disappointment along the way. All he wanted was a place to belong, but he continued to get let down during his time in Sanctum.

It’s been almost one full year since Shane Abbess’ Science Fiction Volume One: The Osiris Child made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest late September 2016. We recently caught up with Shane to talk about his film. We discussed everything from production design to music to the economy of the film, notably the team’s efforts getting shots both done in budget in a timely manner. However, aside from a handful of scenes, you’d expect that he had the luxury of resources to build this fascinating world.
Culled from favorite childhood experiences/films, cherry-picked tropes from specific genres, and aimed at giving the audience things they’ve never seen before , the result of Abbess’ work is one of the most impressive sci-fi films this year. A new trailer has been released for the upcoming sci-fi action film, The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. I'm not really sure about that weird subtitle, but the movie looks pretty good! I'm a sucker for sci-fi, though, even the low budget sci-fi stuff like this. There are some pretty cool visuals to check out in the trailer!
The movie was shot in Australia and the cast includes Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Daniel MacPherson, Luke Ford, and Teagan Croft. Here's the synopsis:
Set in the future in a time of interplanetary colonisation, Sy (Lutz), a mysterious drifter, meets Kane (MacPherson), a lieutenant working for an off-world military contractor, Exor. With DC Comics’ Vertigo recently releasing the trade paperback version of Lucifer Vol. 1: Cold Heaven, we caught up with author Holly Black to discuss the otherworldly settings and noir style of the comic book series’ first six issues.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us today, Holly, and congratulations on the recent release of Lucifer Vol. 1: Cold Heaven. Were you a fan of this character and this world before you started working on this comic book series?
Holly Black: I’ve loved Lucifer since Sandman and through his run with Mike Carey. In fact, I am not sure any other character would have been as tempting for me. I was on the phone with Shelley Bond, who called me about potentially pitching some ideas and she casually mentioned that maybe I might be interested in Lucifer. I had a lot of projects on...

Infini is the second feature from Australian director Shane Abbess, who broke onto the scene with an impressive actioner called Gabriel (review). Filmed on a buget of (supposedly) $150,000 Australian dollars, it was an impressive enough showcase of the young filmmaker's visual chops that Abbess was courted in Hollywood, becoming attached to numerous big films over the years; none of which have moved into production with him at the helm.
So, dying to get back behind the camera, Abbess went back to Australia to make Infini, a sci-fi/horror affair from his own script, with an emotional centre - something he could be proud of.

Australian director Shane Abbess is back and kicking some major ass with Infini, his new science fiction/horror flick opening May 8 on VOD and in Theatres.
We haven't seen anything from the director since Gabriel alerted the world to Abbess' ability to work wonders with a micro-budget. Here, he pulls out all the sops. Form the Blade Runner-y earth, to the gorgeously shot space station, inifni looks like a winner for scif-fi fans. Sure it's reminiscent of some of our favourites (read: Event Horizon, Aliens, Pandorum), but the acting looks great and I'm guessing there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Infini is a sci-fi thriller from director and writer Shane Abbess (Gabriel). A trailer for this film was released late last year. Now, Entertainment One Films has released another, official trailer for the film. The clip shows the edges of space and an abandoned mining facility. Also, Infini stars Daniel MacPherson, Whit Carmichael and Luke Hemsworth. This title will be release shortly and a preview of the film is hosted here. The film focuses on a lone survivor at a mining facility. Whit (MacPherson) requests a rescue and a team of explorers are sent to intervene. But, a terrible biological agent is set to be released and time is both precious and running out, for everyone. The film blends elements of horror and science fiction. Much of the film is set in the future, where technology is greatly advanced. Meanwhile, it looks like the agent has already changed some of...

Candy director Neil Armfield will adapt gay memoir Holding The Man, one of five projects backed in Screen Australia’s latest funding round.
Screen Australia will invest in Holding The Man, an adaptation of a popular gay memoir from director Neil Armfield (Candy), and A Long Way Home, from Garth Davis, Jane Campion’s co-director on the series Top Of The Lake.

Newcastle United take on Queens Park Rangers at St. James’ Park on Saturday for a crucial six-pointer at the wrong end of the Barclays Premier League.
