Dexter's disturbing origins are revealed.
chillwill9221 February 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter is a murderer, and now we know why. The final scene of this episode is the most shocking and frightening moment of the entire series thus far. Dexter, having to deal with a hotel room full of blood left behind by the Ice Truck Killer (Christian Camargo), unlocks a repressed memory as he steps into the gruesome place. Dexter is shaken as we have never seen him before. This also explains what the Ice Truck Killer did with the blood from his victims, and called a whole new question into the matter: why does he seem so interested in Dexter? It was one thing when he was simply leaving him clues and causing trouble for him, but now he's attempting to drudge up some of his worst memories. In addition, Angel (David Zayas) has a new lead on the Ice Truck Killer, one that unknowingly leads him straight to the murderer himself. This episode provides much exposition, and also sets the final episodes of the season into motion.

Just Bloody Brilliant!
g-bodyl4 January 2014
The tenth episode in the first season Dexter is by far the best one yet. The intensity level increases by a whole lot as we dig deeper into the case of the Ice Truck Killer and the past of Dexter. Regarding Dexter's past, we really begin to see some interesting developments here. This episode does not lack in anything and because of the fast-pacing, you just want to see what happens next.

This episode, "Seeing Red," has the killer striking again and leaves a room covered entirely in blood. As Dexter investigates, we learn more about his solemn past. Meanwhile, Debra and Rudy begins to fight with each other. Angel uncovers what could be possibly a big clue in the case. Rita may lose custody over her kids after she attacked Paul and Dexter cannot allow that to happen.

Overall, this is definitely the best episode of the series so far. It's beginning to tie things up and we can expect some big things to happen in the next two episodes. For one, I am extremely excited to see what they bring. If this is any indication, I daresay it's gonna be one tense time for Dexter and the Miami Police Department. I rate this episode 10/10.

Fixing One Problem
claudio_carvalho4 July 2009
Dexter receives a jar with blood with the keys of room 103 of the Marina View Hotel inside. When Debra and Sergeant Doakes arrive in the crime scene, they get impressed with the bloodshed and calls back-up and forensics. Dexter recalls suppressed memories from his childhood and is incapable of staying in the room while Rudy uses Debra to get close to Dexter. Meanwhile Paul presses charge against Rita for being assaulted and she is summoned to the precinct first and later to court. Due to the risk of Rita losing the custody of the children to Paul, Dexter gets emotionally evolved and fixes the problem. When Angel finds a possible lead to the Ice Truck Killer with a prostitute, he consults Rudy about cases of acrotomophilia, i.e., people attracted to persons with an amputation. Lt. Laguerta faces Captain Matthews and tells the truth about the Ice Truck Killer to the press.

In this great episode, Dexter recalls a traumatic experience from his childhood when he lost his mother and certainly the motive for his dysfunctional behavior. Debra is completely blinded by her crush on Rudy and Dexter and she are giving ammunition for the next steps of the Ice Killer Truck. Dexter resolves the problem of Rita but exposes himself to Paul. Angel gets close to the Ice Truck Killer and lets see if he will survive to the attack. My vote is eight.

Dexter Series Gets Back on Track
bbovee-17 December 2006
The "Dexter" series is awful, wonderful, deliciously disturbing. The basic premise is so bizarre as to ensure emotional ambivalence in every viewer.

The unfolding of episodes... eagerly awaited in this corner.... has taken a rather bland direction over episodes 6-9. But episode ten seemed to capture the magic again. I notice that the main writing credit goes to Kevin Maynard.

May Mr. Maynard have many more opportunities to keep a good show good. It seems his efforts raised the bar. I hope those in important places regarding the show production take notice.

Debra: Dexter, heads up. It's bad in there. Dexter: OK. Doakes: She's not kidding. It's your wet dream in there. Dexter: Okay...

Warning: Spoilers
Doakes: I need uniforms, backup, forensics, f*ck it send everybody! ;]

The Ice Truck Killer and the Bay Harbour Butcher sit down to eat some steaks.

Love the scene of Deb looking on as Rudy is about to get on the elevator, he and Dex both smiling and conversing. Deb then goes into Dex's work room to question him.. and and and ? talking, you actually talked, you opened your mouth and words come out.

Dex gets pretty lucky, his anger gets the better of him and knocks out Paul, no-one hears it nor sees him drag out the body. I don't know why Paul even had a case against Rita, I thought there was a restraining order against him in the first place, how can he be assaulted in a place he is not allowed to go.

Terrific episode.

Taking Out The Trash [9/10]
panagiotis19939 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 1 Episode 10 ''Seeing Red'' (S1. E10): Episode 9 was awesome and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. So the ice truck killer kept all that blood so he could make this cool crime scene? Nice. Its about time for Dex to do something about the Paul problem. Deb is jealous that Dex and Rudy had a good time together? It seems like Deb is never happy, no matter what happens. Wow Dexter hits paul on the head? Damn I didn't see that coming. 'Rita: 'Where were you? Dex: Talking out the trash'', lol this line is gold. And just like that Paul goes back in jail, awesome! Someone stabbed Angel? Could this be Rudy? My rating is 9/10.

Dexter - Seeing Red
Scarecrow-8819 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"Seeing Red" covers a lot of emotional ground, particularly when it comes to Rita's contentious relationship with her scumbag ex, Paul, the threat of losing her children if he doesn't get visitation a real possibility. Even more striking is Dexter's reaction to a very bloody crime scene at a hotel, a clue of its existence left in a blood-filled jar with a key at the police department. Rudy knowing Dexter's secret and using trauma from the past (and that trauma being reawaken by Dr. Emmett Meridian) to disturb him allows us to see the lead forensic blood expert rattled and shaken, not the norm for someone who typically doesn't suffer ill effects at gory crime scenes. But with the hotel room, drenched and spattered throughout with blood, eerily similar to a crime scene Dexter knew all too well as a child (an event that ultimately twisted and warped his psychology and altered his functionality within society, forcing him to pretend to be "normal" when he feels nothing), the trauma now serves as a mechanism of physical suffering, memories debilitating and seizing him with anxiety attacks. Dexter wants to find the means to be rid of Paul so that Rita can be "enchanting" instead of "worried" but inside his apartment the memories bring on terror he cannot shake. Rudy has a vested interest in Dexter's condition after seeing the blood in the hotel room, unable to "get wood" so that Debra could have sex, resulting in a cold bedroom. Rudy is totally involved in how Dexter responds to his antics, while Dexter tries to go about his life/career, not quite able to usurp the distractions now laying hold to him. The entanglements of a sister wanting to have a connection with him, Paul provoking him to strike the dirtbag with a skillet when ridiculing Rita, Rita's possibility of losing the kids due to her striking him with the bat and breaking a custody agreement, Debra not especially happy with Rudy spending time with Dexter instead of her, and the aforementioned trauma rising to the fore at times all begin to complicate Dexter's cultivated and well-manufactured lie of a life. White roses are what Dex tells Rudy he should have ready when apologizing to Debra about the little rift, with an I Love You to follow...this after Rudy tries to kill Angel because he was investigating painted nails on prosthetic fingers, getting a bit too close for comfort. Dexter setting up Paul by leaving behind drug paraphernalia, a needle in his arm, and called police arriving at his bed as he awakens from the skillet to the noggin would appear to alleviate one heavy burden from Rita's life due to the Three Strike Law. But memories of chainsaws, blood, and his mother won't allow Dexter to have peace after his staging of a "relapse" on Paul. Angel trying to recover from his failed marriage, Vince's continued sleazy banter (and zingers), the five-victim blood soaked room that has sent Dexter into a valley of discontent, LaGuerta's release to the media that a wrongfully accused Ice Truck Killer and reopening of the case would have all questions directed to her racist, bigot superior (and glory hog), Captain Matthews (Geoff Pierson), Sgt Doakes ongoing tensions with his own cop brethren (for sleeping with a cop's wife) and a high-level crime family are also concurring subplots / character developments complementing the seasonal arc involving the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter's peculiar "dance" with him.
