In the very beginning, a baby is born and the doctor's voice says, "It's a girl." The doctor then turns the baby around and in the process reveals that he is actually holding a boy child.
In Hawkes flashback to his dying patient at the hospital he tells the nurses "adrenaline". In hospitals they don't use natural adrenaline, they use synthetic adrenaline, more commonly known as epinephrine. As a MD, Hawkes would know better.
When the child is born at the beginning of the episode the doctor says, "It's a girl". In the same shot, as the doctor turns the baby, it is clearly a boy.
