Stoner's New Image
JordanThomasHall21 April 2017
Admiral Hornsby gives orders for Commander Stoner (Jack Albertson) to oversee the reenlistment of as many of the crew of the USS Appleby as possible. The admiral's plan is to convey the feel of home, and Stoner as "dear ole' Dad". Stoner thickly puts on the charm with a big smile that makes the crew suspicious. Stoner holds a "Talk It Over With Your Executive Officer Day" but no crew member comes to see him. Stoner is depressingly discouraged. Ensign O' Toole (Dean Jones) suggests Stoner inviting some of the men to the commander's home for a party. Mrs. Stoner (Cathy Lewis, Molly of TV's "Fibber McGee and Molly") is upset at the idea and comically treats them like destructive children. Sure enough, Seaman Di Julio (Harvey Lembeck) proceeds to wreck the den in a hilarious scene. The men see Stoner in a different way, making fun of him back on the ship, but the consequences are more positive than expected.
