Fire Ants
AaronCapenBanner25 September 2014
Fascinating and ultimately chilling episode methodically details how hordes of deadly fire ants can threaten human society if they were so inclined, since they live in a heavily merciless and regimented society, where they number in the billions. They primarily live in the southern parts of the world, but can adapt as needed. Real footage of these ants is portrayed, with special photography used to show them in close-up for maximum effect, as they wage war and stage campaigns like people. Music and editing are effective, and frightening summing up of how not one insect species has ever become extinct at the hands of humans speaks volumes.

Educational!

Warning: Spoilers
Educational episode! I knew very little about Fire Ants before watching In Search and I am now knowledgeable on The Fire Ant problem! The origin that the ants came of a boat from South America to the American South. The audience learns about the social structure of the ants. How deadly the ants are. When disturbed, or in the ants way people, dogs etc get eaten efficiently clean. Relentlessly, the ants march on! The ants operate methodically in a way which made my skin crawl. I believe with the dated show phormoans where used to solved the problem, but In Search of is dated. Do not like the ants but found the problem fascinating. Eight out of ten on the creepy side. One of the better episodes.

In Search Of... "Deadly Ants" (1978)

Here's another very good episode for the series that takes a look at the possibility of ants becoming a major enemy to humans. We start off learning about how ants work and then we get into the fire ant and why they were causing so many problems to plants and humans. During the 1970s there were a few movies that dealt with killer ants but they were quite campy and silly. This episode takes the subject a lot more serious as it talks about a few people who were killed by fire ants and we also see some pictures of victims. This was certainly a very entertaining episode because of the footage of the ants doing their thing. We learn about how they work and how they kill and eat. All of this footage was quite interesting to watch.
