All-Time Classic

One of the absolute best episodes from the series gives a spooky, atmospheric, and mesmerizing account to the phenomena of spectral apparitions and ghost legends around ancient castles. Several examples are given, all presented most effectively, but it is the opening segment, recapped later, about an ugly phantom appearing suddenly in the night that gave children nightmares for years, and still provides a jolt today. Also memorable is the reputed screaming skull of a former slave haunting its former estate, pleading with the owners to have its remains sent back to its native homeland. Eerie and scary episode, with splendid music and direction is pure gold.

One of the best In Search Ofs....

Warning: Spoilers
When Leonard Nimoy died in 2015, he was hailed the world over as our beloved "Mister Spock". I wrote him a fan letter once where I told him it would be the strangest he ever got because I had never seen an episode of Star Trek HOWEVER I was the biggest In Search Of fan there ever was. Everything about this show from the spooky music to Nimoy's masterful narration was just brilliant and there is not a show today that could compare to it. This episode about Haunted Castles in England is one of the best and it has sentimental value because it was one of the first I ever watched AND the one that scared me the most especially that story Emma Livesely to about the hideous ghost that appeared before he aunts bed in the middle of the night and literally frightened her to death. Lets say that as a ten year old that scared the geebers out of me.

Scared the hell out of me when I was 10

Warning: Spoilers
I watched Haunted Castles again on youtube! Time well wasted. Easy way to kill 3 hours of your life. Anyways, that's besides the point. I love how the series covers itself with the disclaimer of many possible theories and conjecture. Leonard Nimoy voice, tone and narrative charisma creates a makes for a scary Haunted Castles tale. The reenactments mixed with the interviews, narrations makes for haunted images. The science side of the investigation is lacking. The appreciation which scared the aunt to death was not as nearly scary as when I first saw the episode when I was 7 to 10 years old. Not that I would want whatever it was in my house. I give it 7 out of 10.

In Search of... "Haunted Castles" (1978)

Henry VIII, the mysterious Screaming Skull and various men that were executed are among the things discussed in this episode, which takes a look at various haunted castles in Great Britain. I love any sort of documentary or television episode on ghosts so I was looking forward to this one. This episode certainly isn't the greatest thing that the series ever produced but if you're a fan of the subject then you'll find it slightly interesting. None of the examples I have are given too much running time as they pretty much just give brief details of each haunting and then move on. They also discuss the various technologies at the time people are using to try and determine if ghosts are real.
