Lost Roman City
AaronCapenBanner27 September 2014
The eruption of Mt. Vesuvias that brought down lava and ash from the volcano that destroyed the popular Roman city 1900 years before this episode's first airing is the subject here, as the culture of the fun-loving but decadent people who knew nothing of volcanoes, and therefore were ignorant and unprepared for the destruction, is profiled in reasonably entertaining and informative fashion. Most interesting is how modern-day archaeologists used plaster-of-Paris to pour into the holes at the site, and when hardened and removed, formed replicas of people and animals, giving investigators a definitive view of the doomed citizens last moments.

In Search Of... "Pompeli" (1979)

The Roman city of Pompeli and it's destruction is the subject of this episode, which turns out to be one of the best of the series. We start off learning about the city and the various warnings that the people had that the volcano was dangerous. From here we learn about the destruction of the city and then the two hundred plus years of work that was done to uncover the city and its various secrets. If you're a fan of the subject or the show then you'll certainly be entertained by this episode since it features a terrific subject, some great re- enactments and the information on hand is just full of wonderful stuff. There's no question that this here is one of the most entertaining that the series ever offered.

Warning: Spoilers
In Search of Pompeii is okay! What worked: Viewer found out about the life style of Rome 1900 years ago. The Volcano buried perfectly the town.Gladiator arena, and houses intact is interesting to look at. How the dig was discovered by chance was an interesting story. How the molding process to mold to scale people was fascinating. How 1900 years ago had no idea of how Volcanoes work. Bird entrails predicted Pombeii was safe. What did not work: The interviews and experts where so so. Six out of ten stars. Watch it.Pompeii is such and great topic. Interesting, but forgettable. Still liked it. Not one of the better In search of episodes.
