The Count St. Germain
AaronCapenBanner24 September 2014
Unusual episode details the legend of the count of St. Germain, who was purported to have lived centuries ago, and also lived a long life indeed, and there was a historical figure matching his description who did live to be 90, which was considered ancient at the time! Unusual touch was have actors playing historical figures talking directly to the audience, as if they were there in person, which works surprisingly well. Then there was the modern day "Prophet" who spread the word about St. Germain, and somehow gathered a congregation of followers who chant "Hail St. Germain" to his picture in some kind of fringe religion which is most bizarre viewing, but no comment from host Leonard Nimoy is offered...

Warning: Spoilers
St. Germain, how much was legend and how much was truth? The episode is interesting about the past and learning about St Germain. Who he was? What is legend! The ending I found to be is silly. Maybe some of the rumour was in order to scare St Germain's enemies. The narration, music, etc was excellent. Not one of my favorite episodes. Okay to watch. I give "The Man Who Would Not Die a six out of ten. Oh if he did found a way to live forever, we never found out how. Not the best for season 2. A few other episodes where better. A filler episode. Oh well, okay to watch tho. Still fits well with the series. There has been worse episodes.

In Search of... "The Man Who Would Not Die" (1977)

How long did St. Germain live? Was it for 200 years? Was it much longer than that? That is the question this episode of In Search Of... asks but by the ten minute mark you probably won't care. This is certainly the weakest episode to date and the twist in its storytelling didn't help matters either. You've got Nemoy narrating the story as usual and you've got a couple interviews to help tell the story but then we've got actors playing parts who are answering questions. The "parts" are basically people who knew St. Germain so they are asking questions about him. This gimmick doesn't work at all and it makes the series look extremely cheap and rather stupid. The entire episode is rather boring and certainly ranks as the worst I've seen from it.
