A companion piece of sorts to earlier episode 'Earthquakes' takes a specific look at the San Andreas Fault, which is an earthquake-prone line in California that many predict will be the center of a massive earthquake that will devastate(and perhaps destroy) the state, so seismologists try to determine just how such a potential future catastrophe can be averted, and indeed if it is at all possible to do so. Advanced technology is the primary focus of detection, though animals have been observed acting nervously before a quake occurs, and this in itself may be of enormous importance. Reasonably interesting episode will intrigue Californians in particular.

Interesting episode! A must watch if you live in California. In Search of The San Andreas Fault explains what causes of earth quakes. Plates shifting, under ground pressure, weak points in the earth, cause earth quakes, faults and especially the San Andreas Fault line. In Search of goes into detail about how California's fault lines work. I would not want to live in Holister California after watching this episode! Past earth quakes are vividly portrayed and how a over populated California will be worse off when a big quake hits. Not a matter of if, but when! San Andreas Fault episode, after the depressing news, end with research on how animals act before a quake hits. The interviews, earth quake footage, experts, research methods, and narration creates a synergy for an interesting episode. Not as entertaining as Haunted Castles episode, but watchable. Six out of ten stars. My wife would rank the episode higher.

In Search Of... "San Andreas Fault" (1979)
As with the arctic blast episode from the previous season, this one here is clearly wanting to scare people by warning them that of all the earthquakes we've seen nothing will prepare them for the San Andreas fault and what would happen if it struck. This episode pretty much tells us how earthquakes work and we're given examples of some in the past and the damage they caused. We then get into this specific fault and learn the disaster that could very well happen. I'm watching this episode thirty-seven years after the fact and thankfully I can report that the fears displayed in this episode haven't happened yet. This is certainly another very entertaining episode as it perfectly plays us the fear factor of such an event and I'm sure it gave several people nightmares back in the day.
