Although being "an overnight sensation" for most of her career, if not all of it, Bo Derek is still a very interesting woman and that made for a good episode of "Biography."
The fact is, there is only one notable movie in Bo's career but - wow! - what an impact it had on her status. She is an "icon" thanks to "10," a 1979 film in which she was only on screen for 15 minutes! Yet, that 15 minutes is so memorable, that her name will always be linked among the all-time glamor women of Hollywood. At least, that's what several people on this TV show said, and it's hard to argue with that. What person doesn't know the name "Bo Derek," especially if you were around when this came out in the theater?
Although the episode, and Bo herself, tries to portray her childhood as somewhat normal....it isn't. I'll let you watch this and decide for yourself. By 16, "Cathy Collins" (Bo) was in love with temperamental director John Derek and married him three years later. Despite that huge age difference and the big ego of Derek, the two wound up together until Mr. Derek died in 1998 of a massive heart attack. It took a long time before Mrs. Derek even dated anyone but she did find another man and Bo is happy today. All the stuff that happened in between is pretty interesting because Bo Derek is not just some bimbo - she has brains, which is why I recommend watching this. She's fascinating.
From her physical transformation at 13, longtime friendships with nice people like Ann-Margret, to ups-and-downs movie career-wise, to her horses, politics and wildlife causes, Bo Derek remains an icon in Hollywood.
