The mermaid tail that Kelly Brook and her stunt double, Hannah Stacey, wore for the film were specially moulded to fit each of them and took three and a half months to build.
The mermaid tail was crafted by the Australian makeup effects studio JMB FX, the same that created the tails seen in Aquamarine (2006), H2O: Just Add Water (2006) and its spin-of Mako Mermaids (2013).
Billy Zane and Kelly Brooks were a couple during the time of filming.
A key prop in the film - the antique book about mermaids - was named for the artist who created the images (David Delamare.) The image showing the mermaid with a baby, "Mermaid & Child," while strongly resembling Kelly Brook, was not based upon her.
Billy Zane wore a wig in this film.
