- The group of freedom fighters, now joined by Yellow Dancer (aka Lancer), Rook Bartley (a brave young woman) and Lunk (aka Jim Cooper), try getting back to nature as they set-up a base in the center of a hostile forest.
- Lancer is guarding the Alpha Fighter, waiting for the others to arrive. He notices they're significantly late and wonders if something's happened to them. Meanwhile, the others are busy trying to evade a swarm of attacking Invid patrol units. Scott tells Rand to take the lead, but when he sees a couple of Invid patrol ships up ahead, he detours into the hills. Scott tries to get him to keep going and break through, but when he sees the patrol units, he decides to follow Rand. Lunk and Rook follow him.
Lunk loses control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn. He gets out and tries to grab supplies, but is forced to abandon them and join the others when the Invid fire on him. With the Invid in pursuit, Scott and his group try to lose them in a forest, where they hide in tall grass. Their respite is short-lived, however, as the patrol quickly finds their general location, wading in the nearby river. Rand powers up his weapon, causing the patrol to stop, turn toward the group, and fire. Scott, Rand, Lunk, and Rook return fire. Meanwhile, other Invid units approach from behind and fire on the group, causing them to run into the forest.
Hiding up in a tree, Rand powers up his blaster again, noticing that one of the Invid patrol ships turns toward him when he does so. Suspecting that the Invid are tracking them by their weapons, he shuts off his blaster and observes them leaving. He reports his discovery to the others, saying that the Invid must be tracking them by the bioenergy in their mecha. Lunk adds that when they were near the river, Scott had left the panel gauges of his Cyclone on. Scott agrees that the idea makes sense. Annie compliments Rand on his discovery, while Rook responds with a snarky remark that annoys Rand. Rand responds in kind, and they get into an argument. Scott and Lunk tell them to cool it before they head off toward the alpha.
As the group heads further into the forest, Rook says she saw something. Rand dismisses it as her being paranoid. Annoyed, Scott tells Rand to stop it, and he and Rand head on. With their backs toward the girls, Scott and Rand suddenly hear them scream and turn back to find them covered in leeches. As a few more leeches drop onto her, Rook freaks out. Scott runs to help. Rand tells him not to pull them off, instead grabbing Lunk's lit cigarette and using it on the leeches to get them to drop off.
Annie notices that Lunk's stomach is rumbling. Lunk says all the leech talk is making him hungry. Rand gets an idea and rigs up a fishing pole. As he fishes in the river, Scott and Rook watch, somewhat amused. From one of the trees, Lunk tosses a rock at Rand, getting his attention and pointing in the direction of two Invid scout ships. Scott, Annie, and Rook retreat into the forest, while Rand, still out in the open, gets a bite on his line as one of the scouts approaches. The fish breaks loose from the line as the scout enters, and Rand dives into the river to avoid being seen.
The Invid scouts wade through the water and into the trees on the other side of the river. Scott and Lunk dive into the water and find Rand submerged and passed out, clinging to a rock. They get him out, and Lunk revives him. When he comes to, Rand suddenly jumps up, knocking Lunk over backward into the water.
As the group gets ready to find Lancer and the alpha, a grizzly bear comes out. Scott aims his weapon at the bear, but when he sees a bug on his blaster, he fires wildly, missing the bear but getting the Invid scouts' attention. Further downstream, Lancer hears the blaster shot.
Rand fires at the bear, but the bear knocks the blaster out of his hand. As the bear moves in for the kill, an explosion stops it. Looking up, Rand sees the Invid units. He and the others try to evade them before Lancer shows up in a Cyclone, picks up Scott, and tells him where the alpha is before jumping into a tree. Scott finds the fighter, climbs into it, and powers it up, going after the Invid and destroying the scout ships.
With the enemy defeated, the group enjoys some fish that Rand caught. Scott says they should be on their way to get the energy cells. Rand asks why the rush. Scott asks him how he can be sure that the Invid aren't attracted to the smell of frying fish. Believing Scott may have a point there, Rand quickly gets up and runs off as the others laugh.
