Enjoyable bad movie
smittie-18 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Quiver before the might of the evil android Alfred and his mistress Helen! Thrill to the brave exploits of General Larry! Watch as the Mazinger 7 crew drag some children along into battle against the forces of darkness!

It's another cheap Korean knock-off anime, dubbed over by Joseph Lai and his IFD company. You know what that means. We start with the awesome IFD logo. And since it's a Digiview DVD, we get to see it twice - once before the trailer and then once before the movie proper.

What a movie. Bright, stupid, unbelievable. The plot is so generic as to defy specific description. But Alfred wants to conquer the universe, and only the brave Mazinger 7 crew stand in his way.

The dub is one of the worst I've heard on these Joseph Lai animations - I think only RAIDERS OF GALAXY's was worse. Everyone sounds like a special education ESL student - especially the blonde guy in the Mazinger crew. But maybe he was supposed to be German? Everyone either has a halting, uncertain cadence that undermines their dialog, or they shout their lines with declarative simplicity. The dialog is either totally inane ("I had a party once . . . it was so fun!") or just . . . what!? (the Orion King's babbling at the start of the film)

Alfred's blue bionic henchmen are the comic relief for the film. They dance, they pratfall, they get drunk and then dance and then fall down . . . and they stage a boxing match for Alfred. Even as a seasoned viewer of "bad" films, their antics brought a smile to my face. This film is above ironic enjoyment, "so bad it's good." This film is simply a bright stupid good time.

Consider Alfred, our lackluster antagonist. He's about as threatening as his name. And he's betrayed by his own mistress Helen, who then repents for her betrayal about 5 minutes later. I can't help but feel sorry for him and his mad little scheme to control the universe. And his lieutenant, Blackman, the blue booby with a dashing mustachio, who whips around corners with a comic little "swoosh." All these poor fools. The Mazinger 7 crew are little better. The girls barely have any lines or character, and it's mostly just Kent and Siperian (sp?) going at it in a battle of half-wits for leadership. With the terrible dub/dialog this is all pretty surreal to watch, like a computer's poorly coded approximation of human interaction. That basically sums up all of Joseph Lai's Korean animations: not films, but incredible simulations.

This movie is guileless, it is honest, it is cheap. It is worth $2 for the DVD.

Super Majinger 7!
knifebat23 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is a lower budget Korean knock off version of a vintage 80s style Japanese "Super Robo" anime.

The hero giant robot Super Majinger 7 is a made up robot for this movie. More than likely they used the Majinger name without permission. Super Majinger 7 is kind of cool looking but also all over the place design wise. I mean it friggin attaches to a space train making it look like Medusa or something.

The best part happens within the first half of the movie where Super Majinger 7 fights an evil Raideen robot.

The core story is pretty simple. Earth or an Earth like planet gets invaded and demolished. The Prince, Princess and children are sent off in a space train. They meet up with Super Mazinger 7. The Prince wants revenge rather than go to safety. The hero, pilot of Super Majinger 7 disagrees with the Prince. They end up at the invaders's base and defeat them to save the Galaxy.

This is my 3rd Korean Super Robo DVD that I got for $1.00 each. The others are Defenders of Space, and Space Transformers. Between the 3 of them, I'm still trying to decide which one I like the best.

the pinnacle of a so bad it is good animated film.
joebjackson5 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
to start off I will say I love Japanese animation shows like digimon and yugioh helped me get into foreign animation from other countries. One country I have been interested in for a while is Korea. Korea has made some great animated films like my beautiful girl mari, yobi the five tailed fox and even the film wonderful days (or sky blue in some territories) has some of the best animation I have ever seen. now this was a low budget attempt to knock off the Japanese anime series mazinger z but it does it in such a way it hilarious. the voice acting is hilariously bad with actors either too over the top or so monotone you would swear they were Microsoft Sam. animation for the most part is decent but then they cut corners like dragging mazinger (yes they did not even change the robot's name? across the screen flying his fist straight into missiles. some characters disappear and reappear and sometimes outer space turns into a blue sky. all the characters are puppets and the main villain is a evil robotic king named Alfred! I would tell you the plot but if there i one I cant find it because it is buried among a mound hilariously bad voice acting and animation! if you like so bad its good anime like garzey's wing, MD geist or bible black (though that one is a porno but with hilariously bad dubbing)than this is thee title for you along with Joseph lai's other productions!

Korea's Low-Budget Answer to Voltron
deshan-7858010 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Before I start this review, let me let you guys know that this review may contain a few spoiler alerts, viewer discretion advised. Protectors of Universe is simply Korea's answer to Voltron with some help from the infamous company IFD Films. It's already awful enough that IFD Films is notorious for bringing out painfully god-awful low budget movies. How's this low-budget Voltron rip-off you may ask? Here's the overall pros & cons to help you out a little bit. Pros: - Good news, it's only 68 minutes long Cons: - Cheap & poor animation (even for the 1980s standards, this looks like something you may expect from a 1970s or even 1960s cartoon) - Atrocious voice-acting (especially the English dub version) - Barely any story & character developments - Bad fight scenes - Bad music - Horrible sound effects - Horrible everything I definitely advise you guys to just watch Voltron instead of this low-budget Korean trash. Hands down the worst movie I've ever seen in my life! What nonsense, the end.
