A Lasting Impression

Warning: Spoilers
Given the 33 years since watching this pilot I'll readily admit not being able to recall the plot line, outside of Ron Ely portraying a (formerly active) Navy Seal who retained considerable skills. In his early 40's, Ron had the gravity and physique to be tailor made for this role. He lived on his boat and at one point while on board, I recall a scene in which he tested his dexterity with some ball bearings (it may have been a matter of snatching three off a table before they rolled off) but he missed one, ruefully, yet silently, acknowledging the decline of his abilities. Of course he's eventually drawn into some conflict with bad guys who ultimately lose (he's a Seal, right?). At the end he retested himself, this time catching all three balls, as if to proclaim that he was ready for action once again. The tone of the character really resonated with me, even at that early age and I hope some day it will see the light of day.

Action packed

If I remember, Ron Ely's character lived on this boat with a secret room full of weapons. He also drove a Porsche 928. I had hopes that this show would make it but I guess I was wrong. Ron Ely was a great actor in his time. I always thought that he was the best Tarzan. I don't remember much about the other actors. I think this was a NBC show that got pulled too early. By submitting this review I am agreeing to the terms laid out on this site. This is my original work and I am proud to be an American in a non American world. I am trying to get to 200 words but it has become cupreous and arbitrary. Four score and seven years ago, our forefathers brought fourth this country some rights for all people. I remember Gomer Pyle saying this in one episode of his show.

Decent little TV movie.

Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching this on TV, though I saw it only once and don't recall many details. Ron Ely is a former Navy SEAL, in what was probably the first Hollywood reference to that unit, which was purposely unsung in mass culture. It took a little research to understand what SEAL even meant, at that time (SEa Air/Land). Anyway, he is pulled into a situation involving some bad men and uses his combat skills to take them out. I do distinctly remember Ely pushing a hidden button to reveal a hidden arsenal.

The film was decent for TV, but nothing spectacular, which is probably why it fell into obscurity. I suspect it was a pilot for a TV series that didn't sell (on of many). If you come across it, it's a decent way to kill a couple of hours.
