Jal's episode wasn't my favourite the first time I saw it. She seemed so moody and uptight, it was impossible to imagine her having any fun. Looking at it now though Jal's episode does have a lot going for it. Unlike the other characters she is actually very focused and driven, she knows what she wants and she doesn't let herself get distracted. She's clearly not at the best school and yet she has the talent. Jal and Cassie seem to be the only two characters too not in awe of Tony, which hints at a level of intelligence the other characters may lack. There's a nice bit comedy when Jal brings Sid into a women's clothes shop. Sid also hints that they may be more alike than she'd like to think. It's when you get into Jal's homelife though that you start to really get into her character. Her father is also in the music business but offers her no support, it's insane how hard he is on her, little wonder she's so uptight and sulky, meanwhile her mother his nowhere to be seen. The episode though does drain a lot of the life out the of the show, there's just no energy in some of the scenes of Jal and her dad. We also kind of see Michelle at her shallowest and insecure here too in this episode.

Jal's Story

Since Jal is the most introverted character in this particular show, this episode that focused on her seemed quite bland. Yeah we found out that she's part of a very musically inclined family (rap star father, beat boxxing brothers) But the story goes absolutely nowhere and this was a strangely unfilling filler episode. Yes Madison shows up late in the episode and a fight breaks out, but it seemed just too little too late to save this one boring episode in an otherwise pretty fun little series. I've heard rumors that Jal will ditch the 'good girl' image in Series 2, if this episode is any indication then it's a very good move on the part of the writers. Again I love the series, but this part not so much.

Jal - Clarinet Player, Famous Dad

Jal plays the clarinet supremely well and the rest of the school orchestra plays badly.
Jal sits on the couch and another female sits on the floor near them. Tony and Michelle are making out - Michelle sits on his lap and he wraps his arms around small part of her back. Jal gets sick of it and asks when they are going shopping. Michelle says they need to go upstairs first and we hear their sex noises.
Jal opens the door to leave and Sid is there. She drags Sid to the mall with her to buy a dress.
At the store Jal is in the fitting room with several dresses to try on. She tells Sid to come in and tells him to, "Zip.". He is embarrassed at the partial nudity concerning the back only. He zips the dress and mumbles feedback. Jal tells him to unzip and he does so. She takes off the dress completely in front of him wearing only her bra and panty. Sid avoids looking but glances as well. Sid is shy to zip up the next dress as the zipper starts in the butt area. He does so and she ends up picking this brown dress.
Michelle looks at the dress Jal bought in her bedroom. She doesn't approve. She pulls away the curtains to her closet full of dresses and picks out a low-cut dress. Michelle tells Jal she needs to dress sexier.
Jal practices the clarinet at home. Her two brothers and a white male practices their rapping. She goes down to her dad's space where he has a white girl sitting by him and two black males sitting across. The poor girl doesn't get enough attention from her dad, he chases after sex and fulfilling his own pleasures.
At the club that Jal's dad is in charge of, Jal tells the bodyguard to let the boys in. They had failed to fool the bodyguard that they are 21 years old. When Jal appears the boys stare at her chest openmouthed. Her black and white sexy tight lace dress looks amazing on her. It shows off her cleavage and legs.
Inside the couch area of the bar the boys continue staring at her boobs. Jal leaves after the boys insist on buying the girls drinks.
Jal meets a cute confident male who compliments her dress. He invites her to his friend's club and Jal takes Sid.
Suddenly Jal is held by the cute boy and Mad appears looking for payment for the drugs Sid took. Mad breaks Jal's clarinet.
Jal's brothers and the white male start beating up Sid. Jal says he is helping her and points in the direction of Mad and the cute boy.
The brothers and white boy lay on hospital beds looking broken. They have clearly been beat up pretty good. They did get in a few hits though.
At Jal's clarinet performance she wears a long black dress with a slit. She looks beautiful with her lip gloss popping.
Outside near the venue her dad and another black male force Mad into his black vehicle. Jal's dad drives off.
