Another hectic morning at the Jetson residence. Jane has to get the kids ready, while George snoozes away. Only Elroy is reluctant to go, claiming illness. He's certain it was Venus virus. But once the doctor is summoned, via visi-phone, it is proved otherwise. An upset stomach from over eating. A vain attempt to get out of school. It didn't work in our day either. Jane scolds him for spending his father's raise, then realizes if she doesn't get her lazy husband out of bed and off to work, there won't be a raise, or even a job. So, after waking up, George does his virtual morning exercises- he lays in bed while a virtual graphic of George does all the exercising. Now where can I get one of those? Upon getting out of bed, George wants to look his best for his meeting with Mr. Spacely. That office supervisor job was as good as his. So, after putting on the same clothes he always wears (he's a cartoon, after all), he hops in his jet car, flies among the traffic and arrives at work. On time for once. Spacely calls him in, and immediately introduces George to Uniblab, a state of the art, highly technological robotic brain with a giant round head and a stutter, but you should see it do stock reports! This robot can do anything...even take the job George was hoping for and resulting in the lowly human becoming the robot's assistant. But after a few minutes on the job, George realizes Uniblab isn't all he's cracked up to be...and he is really cracked up. He secretly tries to play poker with George, and even records him badmouthing Mr. Spacely. Well, when the boss finds out, George is...you guessed it, fired. Uniblab suggests he finish out the week, thus not being paid for nothing. Upon arriving home, George is even further devastated to see the family and neighbor Henry Orbit throwing him a party in honor of his new job. Following the premature festivities, George confides in Henry what happened, and he suggests taking the apologetic approach- get on your hands and knees and beg forgiveness. George decides to give it a try, apologize to Mr. Spacely and promise never to call him names again. Well, the plan might have worked had George not narrowly missed hitting a car and then cursing out the driver, who happened to be Spacely. Given only five minutes to clean out his desk, George does it in 4, and Uniblab forces him to spend his last minute on oiling him up. But a clever Henry Orbit adds a little gin and tonic into the oil supply, making Uniblab go batty. Unfortunately Spacely just happened to be presenting Uniblab to a board of stockholders that day, and they really get a show. Uniblab sprays them with coffee, throws cards at them, replays George's insult to Spacely, and then throws the boss for a loop. Literally. But it all turned out okay. Spacely scrapped his frivolous investment and offered the supervisor job to George, so all seemed well...until Henry dropped by to announce his vacation plans and to introduce the family to his replacement: Uniblab.
This episode was released on video under the name Microchip Chump, which I guess they felt was a much cooler title. I think it is, because I guess some people would wonder who or what is Uniblab? The Uni-miester would return in "G.I. Jetson" to further harass George. Hilarity ensues! But that's another story. Good episode!
