Toby : Yes, father. Will I see you at Christmas?
John : That won't be possible.

John : [to Toby] Remember you are a little gentleman. Your grandmother will not tolerate any misbehavior
Toby : Yes, father. Will I see you at Christmas?
John : That won't be possible.
[Toby starts to cry, a bit]
John : No tears.
[John ends the conservation with Toby as he stands up]
John : [to Ellen] I'll see you in a few weeks.
[John leaves to get back aboard on the train]

[Toby enters Grandmother Ellen's house. Ellen enters as well]
Grandmother Ellen : I do not permit ruining in the house. Wet shoes are to be left in the foyer.
[From Toby's point-of-view, he sees a picture of John and his mother in a wedding]
Grandmother Ellen : [offscreen] Jackets are to be hung up. And meals are to be eaten in the kitchen.
Toby : Yes, ma'am. You have a nice house.
Grandmother Ellen : Let's keep it that way, shall be? My bridge group is arriving any minute. You may stay quietly upstairs until dinnertime.
