Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of “Invincible,” now streaming on Prime Video, plus light spoilers for upcoming storylines in the “Invincible” comic.
Just shy of three years after the Season 1 finale of “Invincible” streamed on Prime Video, the final episode of Season 2 has arrived at long last — and there was just as much bloody, superhero action.
In “I Thought You Were Stronger,” the finale to Season 2 Part 2, Mark/Invincible (Steven Yeun) rushes home after the multiverse-traveling villain Angstrom Levy (Sterling K. Brown) kidnaps his mom Debbie (Sandra Oh) and baby alien half-brother Oliver. At first, it seems like the vengeful villain has the upper hand. Every time Mark flies toward him, Angstrom opens up a portal and strands Mark in a different dimension.
The battle leads to some eye-catching, alternate-universe cameos. In one callback to the original “Invincible” comic, Mark crashes into a web-slinging superhero...

Mofac Animation Inc., South Korea’s most decorated visual effects studio, proudly announces its first-ever full-length animated movie: The King of Kings, an animated family film inspired by a little-known short story by Charles Dickens depicting the life and times of Jesus Christ.
The faith-based movie is in its final stages of production at Mofac Animation, as well as in performance recordings from the United Kingdom to the Hawaiian Islands – and numerous locations in between. The ever-growing, A-list cast will be announced at a future date. Mofac Animation is currently seeking potential distributors.
In the film, Charles Dickens finds trouble balancing his writing and performing with the parenting of his children – particularly his youngest son, Walter. Charles discovers the perfect bonding element via the sharing of his short story The Life of Our Lord – the reading of which would become an annual tradition in the Dickens’ family Christmas celebration. This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
“They shall know my Inferno!” cries the Goblin Queen early in X-Men ’97‘s third episode. Now, the Goblin Queen has had a rough day, which began with her thinking that she was the real Jean Grey and ended with the revelation that she was a clone created by evil (but fashionable) geneticist Mr. Sinister. Her heel turn came so quick that she really didn’t have time to workshop her villain monologues.
Whatever the shortcomings in her baddie banter, the Goblin Queen makes up for it with evil powers. She immediately begins transforming the X-Mansion into a Hellscape, complete with a giant head in an elevator and a vision of Xavier as a monster from the anime classic Akira. Wild as these transformations are, they have nothing on the comic book storyline that inspired it.

"Young Justice" currently sits in limbo after its fourth season wrapped on Max. There's more story to tell, but Warner Bros. hasn't given creator Greg Weisman the greenlight to tell it. But hey, "Young Justice" has come back from worse! Cartoon Network outright canceled the show after season 2 finished airing in 2013.
"Young Justice" has the same premise as "Teen Titans" (soon to be a movie from DC Studios). The sidekicks of DC Comics form their own team. Then, each season skips ahead in time and the show's true design is unveiled. "Young Justice" isn't just a show about the sidekicks, it's Weisman's epic about the entire DC Universe, following heroes and villains as they age and fall, and new ones rise.
The DC Animated Universe shows were a big part of my childhood. If I can pinpoint why I love DC Comics, it's those shows. However, I didn't watch them as they aired,...

Hellboy is one of the most successful superhero comic characters outside of the Marvel/DC duopoly; his adventures bridge the gaps between fantasy, horror, and good old-fashioned pulp.
In 1944, Nazis led by Grigori Rasputin opened a portal to Hell to summon the harbinger of the apocalypse. They succeeded — the being in question was a demon child named Anung Un Rama ( "And upon his brow is set a crown of flame"). The Nazis were defeated by Allied soldiers and the child was adopted by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and named Hellboy. Professor "Broom" raised his son into the top agent for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (The Bprd); Hellboy approaches his job with the attitude of a working stiff and is really unenthusiastic about his destiny to destroy the world.
Unlike his contemporaries superheroes, Hellboy hasn't had the most successful time on film. "Hellboy" has been adapted as an unfinished...

It's not certain when there'll next be a new Spider-Man movie in theaters. 2023 gave us one of the best ones yet with "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," but the sequel "Beyond The Spider-Verse" doesn't have a concrete release date. Tom Holland's live-action web-slinger is probably returning, but his fourth outing is currently in pre-production.
Fortunately, there are decades of great comics if you need your Spider-Man fix. Some of the best of this past decade, all written by Chip Zdarsky (a pen name for Steve Murray), are now collected all in a single omnibus edition. If you're a Spider-Man movie fan, you'd be remiss not to swing over to a comic shop or bookstore and seek this out.

One of the most memorable faces in horror history, Robert Englund remains a rare example of a genre actor that no director would dare to hide under a mask. Sure, his signature role as the clawed dream demon had Englund performing under several layers of intricate makeup, but it was still his iconic expressions and mannerisms that turned Freddy Krueger into a household name.
However, one of the actor’s many talents is rarely acknowledged when looking back on his decades of contributions to genre media, and that would be his penchant for villainous voice-acting. For decades now, the sultry sounds of Robert Englund have been bringing all manners of animated characters to life in cartoons and videogames. And with #RobertEnglundDay finally upon us, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six of Robert’s most memorable voice roles.

This post contains spoilers for "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse."
Spider-Man has almost as long a history in animation as he does in the comic pages where he originated. That's why the "Spider-Verse" films' conceit — placing different Spider-People together and representing them with different styles of animation — is so clever. While the original "Into the Spider-Verse" featured only six Spider-People teaming up, the sequel "Across the Spider-Verse" takes things into overdrive with hundreds of them. This fulfills the promise of a Spider-Verse.
Most of these Spider-People are simple cameos or easter eggs -- they're all going about their day in Miguel O'Hara's (Oscar Isaac) citadel on Earth-928 and the film rarely lingers on them. However, knowledgeable Spider-Fans will spot some stars among the crowd. "Across the Spider-Verse" treats all Spider-Man audiovisual media as part of one big web. So, like how "Spider-Man: No Way Home" united the live-action Spider-Man actors,...

The concept of the super soldier has become a common (if not overused) conceit in the Marvel Universe — not only in the comics, but in its cinematic iteration as well. Abraham Erskine's Super Soldier Serum is probably best known as the stuff that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America. Notably, Erskine's formula died with him, making Cap the only super soldier alive — at least for the moment. Countless tried to recreate its effects, spawning multiple heroes and villains in the process. A few writers took a page from that book in adapting the comics for Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Characters that previously had little to do with the serum were suddenly made into super soldiers. With certain characters, like Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, it absolutely works. But the sheer influx of characters with similar origins has kind of taken the novelty out of it since.

Photo: 'Across the Spider-Verse' Immediately following the release of the hit 2018 animated film, ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, a sequel has been anticipated by both Spider-Man and general Marvel fans alike. The original film garnered a number of awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, so a sequel was always inevitable. However, considering not only the success but the clever writing and fantastic visuals of its predecessor, can a sequel to ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ really hold a candle to the original? The Predecessor After a hiatus following the portrayal of Spider-Man by Andrew Garfield in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, Spider-Man had finally returned to blockbuster status with the release of ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man put the masked web-shooter back on the big screen, following this introduction with a new Spider-Man origin film, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ in 2017. Just one year later, ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse...

We’re officially entering the spooky season and while Disney+ already dropped a few scary things in September, they’re doubling down in October. One of their most Halloween-centric offerings on display is “Werewolf By Night,” which audiences first learned about just a few weeks ago during Disney’s splashy Marvel and LucasFilm panel at the D23 Expo.
Directed by longtime Pixar collaborator, and acclaimed composer, Michael Giacchino, “Werewolf By Night” is the first Marvel Halloween special. The trailer was shown during D23 Expo and looked like a beautiful tribute to old school horror films, but also heavy on the (possibly implied) gore and scares. Filmed in black and white, the special feels a complete throwback to the old-school Universal frights of the past; think “Bride of Frankenstein” or “The Invisible Man.” The special follows Gael García Bernal as a man with the ability to become a werewolf, and explores...

Exclusive: New Line is scratching at a start date on Hello Kitty. The studio, which set the rights to make a film based on the global brand in 2019, has set Jennifer Coyle and Leo Matsuda to direct what will be an animated/live-action hybrid effort.
Plot details surrounding the trendsetting Japanese pop icon are under wraps, but the intention is for it to be catnip for the global consumer audience. Known Universe’s Lindsey Beer wrote the script.
Beau Flynn and his FlynnPictureCo. will produce the film and pursued the Hello Kitty rights for over five years with New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. The film will mark the first time a studio has ever brought Hello Kitty to the big screen. Chanel Bowling will oversee the project for FlynnPictureCo. Known Universe is executive producer and New Line executives Richard Brener, Celia Khong and Paulina Sussman will oversee for the studio.

If you’re a ’90s kid, chances are you’re pretty familiar with Gargoyles, the animated series jam-packed with fantasy, rich characters, and a sprawling world.
Had things panned out differently, Gargoyles would have been the centerpiece of an entire Disney universe, as revealed by Polygon. But history tells us that the cult animated series ended its run in 1997 after just three seasons. Thank the heavens, then, that it’s available to stream right now on Disney+, prompting Polygon to catch up with series creator Greg Weisman for a deep-dive interview into Gargoyles, O.J. Simpson, and that less-than-stellar third season.
Speaking of which, if the opportunity presented itself, Weisman would want to go back and redo the entire third season of Gargoyles, believing it to be the weakest of the three.
I’d ignore or write around those 12 stories, and not think about them much. I guess I’d watch them all one more time,...

If anything, the 1990s played host to a veritable revolution when it came to superhero animation. Though this was something that’d been around since the 1940s, productions had previously been handcuffed by network Standards and Practices like you wouldn’t believe. But then the game-changer that was Batman: The Animated Series arrived and the rest was history.
Soon afterward, Marvel properties began receiving similar treatment. If any of them were to be named as being most fondly remembered, that’d have to be X-Men: The Animated Series. After all, the character designs mirrored that of the source material’s very accurately, as did its adaptations of key comic book storylines.
With the Disney Plus streaming service set to launch soon enough, speculation regarding X-Men: The Animated Series being included is mounting. According to The DisInsider, residents of The Netherlands have been granted a free trial – and both X-Men and...

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is getting a comic book follow-up!
If you had told me 20 years ago that Spider-Man's defining characteristic would eventually be that he's friends with all the different versions of himself from throughout the multiverse, I would have run screaming from the time traveler with weird diseases. First introduced in 1982 to readers of Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Cloak & Dagger are the physical embodiment of darkness and light, though executive producer Joe Pokaski explains that a few minor tweaks have been made to bring the duo into the 21st century.

He’s a staple of the Marvel Universe, and this February, Peter Parker’s legacy will be honored with a milestone issue in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #300.
A celebration of the Spider-Man legacy, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #300 follows the reveal of Peter Parker’s true identity as he goes up against the Tinkerer in what promises to be his biggest challenge yet! It’s a Mighty Marvel story worthy of a 56 page epic as the webslinger is joined in his fight by several Marvel heroes, including Black Panther, Iron Heart, Hawkeye, Wasp and more!
“We don’t take important issue numbers like #300 for granted,” teased executive editor Nick Lowe. “In this issue, Chip and Adam not only tie together all the threads they’ve laid down over the last year, but twist and turn you bigger than you thought possible and tee up the next arc that Everyone will be talking about.

Hello again, and welcome to the recently resurrected Panel Discussion. I’m Kieran, and every week I’m going to go through some of the best comics of the week to give you an idea what you should pick up that you might have missed. This is another stacked week with some fantastic first issues and great jumping on points for books you might be behind on, so let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
The biggest release of the week again goes to DC Comics for Tom King, David Finch, Danny Miki and Jordie Bellaire’s Batman #25 which kicks off the massive new storyline, “The War of Jokes and Riddles”. It feels like absolutely ages since we got a great straightforward Joker story or a great straightforward Riddler story so getting both at the same time feels like an absolute treat. Not only that, but the story has already promised to bring in players from all over Gotham including Deathshot, Deathstroke and of course, Kite-Man. This is going to go down as an iconic Batman story that you’re not going to want to miss out on, so grab this issue today.
The second big release of the week is Chip Zdarksy and Adam Kubert’s Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 which is conveniently timed to come out just weeks before the brand new motion picture. Zdarsky proved that he had the skill to write Spider-Man in the pages of Howard The Duck and his love for the character is evident, even if he dunks on him constantly. While one of Marvel’s top-tier artists, Adam Kubert is underrated as a Spidey penciller even though his work on Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine was one of the best Spider-Man comics of the past decade. While he does great work here, his classic superhero style doesn’t quite gel with Zdarsky’s comedy chops but each creator has tweaked their traditional style to accommodate their collaborator in new ways, which is always the sign of a great book.
If you’ve been sleeping on Dan Abnett’s run on Aquaman this week’s Aquaman #25 is a brilliant jumping on point thanks to the arrival of Stjepan Šejić who breathes new life into the underwater world of Atlantis as a deposed Arthur Curry grows a sweet looking beard and tries to get his throne back. Šejić is an artist known for his love of DC Comics characters thanks to his prolific fan-art output and it’s a massive surprise they haven’t recruited him sooner. Abnett has been building a long-form story in the pages of Aquaman to rival his work on Guardians of the Galaxy and Legion of Super-Heroes so this is a jumping on point you absolutely don’t to miss.
Lastly, I have to shout-out Image Comics’s new release, Shirtless Bear Fighter (Shirtless Bear Fighter #1 review)by Jody Leheup, Sebastian Girner, Mike Spicer and Nil Vendrell, which is exactly what it says on the tin. It feels like a throwback to the Image Comics of ten years ago that didn’t quite have the identity it does now and was trying a bunch of new stuff that led to comics like Proof and Firebreather and if that’s the sort of thing you’re into or just if the name catches your eye, you’ll want to at least give this first issue a shot and see if it’s for you/
That’s it for me this week but there’s still a great number of awesome comics on the stands for you to check out. Happy reading everyone, and I’ll see you all next week!

Spider-Man! Spider-Man! Everyone wants more Spider-Man!
2017 marks the fifteen year anniversary of Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man film, and will see the release of a new movie featuring the third iteration of the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having already appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the latest, (nearly) high-school age appropriate Peter Parker this July. To celebrate, and help cross-promote the new film, and the incredibly popular character, Marvel has revived The Spectacular Spider-Man comic, is launching a PS4 Spider-Man exclusive game (eventually), and is bringing the hero back to Disney Xd after the hero's last series, Ultimate Spider-Man, ended in January.
TVGuide.com has our first look at the new series, Marvel's Spider-Man, featuring a battle between the old web-head and Scorpion, a character I would very much like to see in the films.

Both the Gwen Stacy Variant Program and this month’s Venomized Variant Program were such runaway successes, we couldn’t help but try to top ourselves. And with Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert’s new Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man book on the horizon, the timing couldn’t have been better to put the spotlight on fan-favorite Mary Jane Watson.

Had this been a meme circulating on social media – and, thankfully, it isn’t – this would be about the time we’d say, “if you remember this, your childhood was awesome.” But, in all seriousness, if you were a kid in the 1990’s, you no doubt remember that the X-Men were absolutely huge at that time, despite the fact that they were yet to have any representation on the silver screen.
Lately, Marvel has found a variety of ways to appeal to our nostalgic sides, be it with a trailer featuring the theme song from the classic animated series or some “remastered” Jim Lee variant covers. So, it comes as no surprise that they’ve readied another round of greatness from yesteryear by rolling out X-Men trading card variant covers.

Yesterday, we learned that writer Chip Zdarsky will pen a new Spider-Man series titled Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, which kicks off this June after a special Free Comic Book Day issue. Promising to take the wall-crawler back to basics, it’s going to revolve around some more grounded adventures for the iconic superhero.

We recently learned that Marvel is going to take a back to basics approach with their legacy characters in a bid to bring back longtime readers and make the Marvel Universe a little more recognisable, and the first proof of that comes with the launch of Chip Zdarsky and Adam Kubert's Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. Kicking off in June, it's unclear what this means for The Amazing Spider-Man and Dan Slott's take on Peter Parker having his own company and going on globe-trotting adventures, but based on comments from Zdarsky, this definitely sounds like it could be the title many fans have been demanding for a while now. Here's an excerpt from his interview over at Entertainment Weekly: "The main book, Amazing Spider-Man, has kept things fresh by stretching the character and his situation. It’s still classic Spider-Man at its core, but transposed into new settings. With this book,...

Another Spider-Man movie is set to land in July 2019...
Well, that didn't take long. See what happens when you release a trailer that everybody goes absolutely bonkers over? Marvel Studios and Sony have just confirmed that they're already locking in a sequel for Spider-Man: Homecoming, and they've set a release date of July 5th 2019.
Of course, this is going to cause problems around here for at least a year until we know what the heck they're going to call this thing. Do we refer to it as the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel? Is it Spider-Man: Homecoming 2? How about just plain old Spider-Man 2? Oh, wait, that last one is already taken. Maybe we'll finally get a movie called The Spectacular Spider-Man (which was the initial rumored title for Homecoming).
Oh yeah, and Sony also announced a new release date for Bad Boys 4, which will now open on May 24th,...

When Spider-Man: Homecoming was announced, many folks began to wonder what sort of shape the latest cinematic reboot of the Spider-Man lore would take. Would it revisit familiar characters and tropes that were already explored in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy or Marc Webb's pair of The Amazing Spider-Man movies? Would it take wild deviations from the comics in an effort to make the property fresh again now that it's being rebooted for the second time in five years?
Then, as the cast began to expand beyond Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr., and Marisa Tomei, people began asking who these other actors would be playing. Actors like Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Donald Glover, Laura Harrier, Bokeem Woodbine, Kenneth Choi, Martin Starr, Michael Mando, Kenneth Choi, and Jacob Batalon all signed on...and a guessing game began.
Who's playing Mary Jane? Who's playing Flash Thompson? Is one of these people Harry Osborn?...

Get ready to head back into the Spider-Verse this weekend when Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man kicks off its epic four-part "Return to the Spider-Verse" event! The new event will serve as a sequel of sorts for the original Spider-Verse event that took place last season. Details on the plot have yet-to-be revealed, but the storyline is said to follow Spider-Man & Miles Morales for the most part, which likely means it will center around Peter trying to find a way to get Miles back into his own dimension. On another note, IGN has obtained a ton of details on which Spiders are set to appear and I've broken it down for you below: Part 1 Ben Diskin, who voiced Eddie Brock/Venom in The Spectacular Spider-Man & Spidey himself in Lego Marvel Super Heroes: Avengers Reassembled, will debut as Blood Spider. This week I wanted to read a classic Spider-Man story I hadn’t had a chance to read yet, Kraven’s Last Hunt. While I’ve certainly been aware of Kraven through the years, he was not really on the level of Green Goblin or Black Cat in my book so I hadn’t read many of his adventures.
Boy was that a mistake. Kraven’s Last Hunt has to go down in my book as my favorite Spider-Man story. If I had to compare it to anything, it would be like if Quentin Tarantino penned a book for Marvel. The mood is creepy throughout. The first image alone, with Kraven crouched on the ground front and center on the page, shows how ferocious, evil, and plainly insane the character is. I love how J.M. DeMatteis was able to portray Kraven as clearly insane but with enough sanity in him...

Freeform – Disney’s television network, previously known as ABC Family – has given the greenlight to Cloak And Dagger, and it’s big news for the ABC offshoot. While the main network boasts Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on its roster, and Marvel’s Most Wanted and John Ridley’s Marvel project on its development slate, Freeform has been slower to jump into the superhero pool. Cloak And Dagger will change that, though, bringing a teen romance of super proportions to its younger audience.
Cloak and Dagger are actually two teenage runaways named Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson. Tandy is a 16-year-old girl who runs away from her millionaire mother in Ohio, due to emotional neglect. Tyrone is a 17-year-old boy with a speech impediment, who runs away from his Boston home after failing to prevent his friend being shot by the police. Both Tandy and Tyrone arrive in New...

My first regular comic shop, Kim’s Collectibles, was a cramped little store that shared a cramped little building with a barber. Old men would share war stories in the barber shop, while right next door kids would be flipping through the newest Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man. The small space got gleefully smaller with the long boxes of comics’ back-issues and bins of vintage vinyl records.
I stumbled across this treasure at the end of the story arc rainbow the day before they opened. And you can bet I made sure I returned the next day to make a purchase. But in 1975, especially in a little town like Auburn, nestled in the Finger Lakes region of New York State, we didn’t really know about comic shops. It would be a long time before being a Geek would be cool and “nerd shows” like the Big Bang Theory were waaaay in the future.

To the delight of hardcore fans, Spider-Man is back in the hands of Marvel, but thanks to labyrinthine contractual technicalities, Sony can still exploit the character, and they will do so with their own animated movie slated to hit in 2018, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller as producers (and possible directors). Meanwhile, Marvel is eager to quickly integrate Peter Parker into their cinematic universe. It's widely expected that he'll pop up in next year's "Captain America: Civil War," setting the path for a standalone movie in 2017, leading to the character's participation in the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War." So in a way, this next bit of news makes a lot of sense. Latino Review is hearing that the standalone movie will be called "Spider-Man: The New Avenger." Evidently, the previously considered title was "The Spectacular Spider-Man," which following "The Amazing Spider-Man," seems uninspired. This new moniker will certainly let...

How much Spider-Man is too much? Apparently there can never be enough. Marvel is busy rebooting the live action character for their franchise, but don't think Sony is sitting around and watching one of their valuable properties being handled by someone else. They're still free to try their own hand at the character and it looks like they really want the younger set to get on board with the web slinger. Hollywood's favorite franchise heroes, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, will produce and write the treatment for an animated Spider-Man film for Sony, that will hit cinemas on July 20, 2018 (that's one year after Marvel's scheduled, live action "The Spectacular Spider-Man"). This will be a standalone effort and not part of the Marvel universe. Lord and Miller — who have their fingers in the Lego franchise, "22 Jump Street" series, and are working on "The Flash" — are still deciding whether or not they'll direct this new 'Spider-Man,...

The last year has been quite a rollercoaster ride for the Spider-Man movie property. After fans were expecting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to deliver the first “real” Spider-Man movie since 2007’s Spider-Man 3 (flawed though that was), ASM2 suffered a decidedly mixed critical reception and brought in the lowest box office grosses of all five Spidey movies to date. This caused Sony to re-think their strategy towards the web-slinger’s movies, leading to the jaw-dropping announcement last month that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios would be teaming up to bring Spidey back to the screen, starting off with an appearance in Captain America: Civil War (likely in a post-credit scene) before he gets his own solo movie released on July 28, 2017.
Despite being one of cinema’s more accessible superheroes to date, Spidey hasn’t exactly had an easy time for the last 8 years or so. Spidey 3 was disappointing,...
