Patrick Seitz: Frédéric François Chopin

Quotes

  • [first lines]

Frederic Francois Chopin : [PlayStation 3 version]

    [voiceover]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Why? Why did it happen? Why was she destined to die? What crime could a girl like that have possibly committed to deserve such a grim fate? She was only 14. And during those brief 14 years, what did she do? Simply cherish a love of music and revel in her girlish dreams. I'll never forget her. Even if the cruel passage of time should wear the threads of memory so thin they break, I will always remember.

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : [voiceover, as a scene from the game's opening plays out]  I won't let you die, Polka. After all, you've only been alive for fourteen years. A fourteen-year old girl must live her life. When the sun is out, they hide in their buds and then open their blossoms only when it is truly important. Drawing in even the faintest amount of light, they decisively embody it. They wait for the moment when the world is trapped in darkness and then blossom with glowing light. And in doing so reflect something that people can never see. On the grassy plain, they paint a picture of the star-filled night sky, that was blotted out by the city lights. Isn't it pitch black around you? Isn't the world covered in darkness? Now, Polka. Come. It's two o'clock in the morning. The time for you to blossom has come. Do you remember? You said it was up to me whether I wanted to call them heaven's mirror or death lights. I'm still allowed to choose, am I not? Well then, I shall make my definitive choice right now. That flower that so resembles you; that flower that boldly challenges the darkness; I choose to call it Heaven's Mirror!

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : This place used to be much more beautiful. You have a heart that sees the world with open eyes, don't you?

Polka : Who... who are you? And what are you doing out here this late at night?

Frederic Francois Chopin : [not listening]  Everything in the world slowly fades with time. It is very difficult to remain still and keep things exactly as they are in just one particular moment. But because everything shifts only a little bit at a time, no one really notices the change.

  • [sometimes says it during a victory scene when Frederic defeats the last remaining enemy of the battle]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Go back. Back into a nebulous dreams.

  • [after the party defeats Frederic in the final fight of the Xbox 360 version]

Frederic Francois Chopin : I was not able to defeat you after all. I'm glad...

[Frederic falls to the floor and dies]

  • [after the party defeats Frederic in the final fight of the PlayStation 3 version]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Yes. This is... for the best. Dear Emilia...

[Frederic falls to the floor and dies]

  • [says it sometimes when Frederic is in the party starting a normal battle]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Now what part do YOU play in all this?

  • [sometimes says it when Frederic levels up in the end of a battle]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Let us celebrate and be satisfied.

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : Huh? What is that thing?

[a glowing agogo bounced towards Allgretto's group]

Allegretto : Hm. I beg it's one of those agogos that girl was talking about before.

Beat : It's kind of weird. Look, Retto. It's glowing.

Polka : Agogo, thank you for saving me.

Beat : I've never seen one of those before. Oh, I know! I'll take a picture of it.

[just as Beat takes out his camera, the agogo vanishes]

Polka : Where did it go?

Allegretto : [slightly frustrated]  Great job, Beat. You scared it off by taking that stupid thing out! I wished I could've touched it.

Beat : [unhappy]  Gee, I'm sorry, Retto.

  • [sometimes says it when Frederic levels up in the end of a battle]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Strength, that all can see.

  • [says it sometimes when Frederic is in the party starting a normal battle]

Frederic Francois Chopin : How pitiful. You soulless creatures!

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : All around us the world is fading at an incredibly rapid rate, and yet, you say you aren't able to see it. Well, perhaps there is a reason for that. Perhaps you can't see it because you are fading even faster than the world.

  • Allegretto : [PlayStation 3 release]  Why? Why couldn't I do anything for her What could I have done to change things?

    [begins to cry]

Allegretto : Does this mean dying was the only thing Polka could do? There wasn't any way we could save her? Why did Polka, of all people, have to suffer like that? What the hell is wrong with this world?

[stands up and raises his arms]

    Allegretto : Damn it!

[strikes the ground with both fists, then turns to Frederic]

Allegretto : You! You come barging into our world out of nowhere, then just leave when you get tired of it! This is supposed to be your dream, right? Well then, why couldn't you do anything? No. That's not it. It isn't a dream at all. It's real. And I don't know what, but I have to do *something*!

Frederic Francois Chopin : That's true. Perhaps this is no longer just a dream.

[gets up and everyone turns to him]

Frederic Francois Chopin : Have I awakened? At long last...

Beat : [backing away slightly]  F-Frederic?

Frederic Francois Chopin : [looking around and observing that the scenery around him has not changed]  Why? The dream was at an end. Oh, no. No, it can't be. Not Polka.

[stares at his hands in confused shock]

Polka : [falling into darkness]  Thank you, everyone. I know it didn't last very long, but really, this was the most fun I've ever had in my life. If I blow him a kiss, I wonder, will it reach him up there? I hope so. I really do.

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : How should I put this? If I told you that your world exists in a dream I'm having, would it startle you? At this moment, I'm asleep in Paris. As a pianist - and as a composer, as well - I have produced many popular works that have brought me a rather good deal of renown there.

  • Frederic Francois Chopin : Triumphant victory! The hoofbeats of the brutal horde approach! Legion Fulminante!
