Editor’s note: This is the latest installment in the Deadline series Hollywood Contraction, which examines the toll the job losses caused by the ongoing industrywide cost-cutting has had on different sections of the entertainment community.
Matthew Hobin, a producer who has worked on series including Kitchen Nightmares and Hell’s Kitchen, was driving for Uber Eats during the pandemic when he found out his Netflix food series Fresh, Fried and Crispy got four Daytime Emmy nominations including a best director nod for himself.
Hobin, who runs OU812 Productions and was a co-exec producer on truTV’s Storage Hunters and exec producer on Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods, told Deadline that he pulled over, celebrated for 30 seconds, and went back to delivering food.
His story is symbolic of a broader problem in the unscripted industry, which is impacting significant numbers of people.

Exclusive: Fox is firing up another season of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars and is moving filming from California to the UK in order that the host can explore new territories.
The Apprentice-style series from the chef’s Studio Ramsay Global will continue to feature U.S. contestants but this time be filmed across Ramsay’s native Britain. The show originated in the UK on the BBC but that version was axed last year after two series. An Australian version is due to launch shortly on Network Nine.
Food Stars sees food and beverage industry professionals put through a multitude of challenges designed to showcase their skills, as Ramsay searches for the next great culinary entrepreneur. Each week, one person gets eliminated, and the winner is eventually handed a hefty angel investment.

Unless your head is perpetually stuck between two pieces of bread, then you know how successful Gordon Ramsay is at creating cooking entertainment.
Whether it's the fierce team competition of Hell's Kitchen, the frightening details from restaurants across America on Kitchen Nightmares, or the three-level cooking adventure that is Next Level Chef, he's got a nose for transforming culinary delights into must-see TV.
But even if you are one of those folks who never escapes their own doughy existence outside the entertainment realm, you probably know about the Idiot Sandwich meme.
Although the meme has taken off like wildfire over the years, most people are unaware of its genesis. As it turns out, it was not Gordon Ramsay and a real contestant on one of his shows.
Who knew? Well, we did.

Exclusive: Fox, along with the rest of the broadcasters, is breathing a sigh of relief that new scripted programming will return for the second half of the 2023-2024 TV season. But, while difficult, the fall season wasn’t all bad.
To fill the airtime, Fox leaned on adult animation and unscripted programming — both of which put up positive numbers for the network. New series like Krapopolis put up promising numbers, while the return of Kitchen Nightmares and a second season of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test helped keep ratings steady this season.
While the upended fall schedule due to the dual strikes was “frustrating,” CEO of Fox Entertainment Rob Wade told Deadline that network’s “mindset quickly moved from frustration to seeing opportunity.”

Hey, "Kitchen Nightmares" fans. We hope you guys totally enjoyed episodes 9 and 10 tonight, especially since they are indeed the last episodes of Kitchen Nightmare's current season 7. That means these episodes might be the last ones you'll ever see for possibly forever since we don't yet have an official confirmation from Fox that they're going to renew Kitchen Nightmares for a brand new season 8. Our guess is that they just brought Kitchen Nightmares back from its 9-year hiatus because of the writers and actors' strikes that took place over this past Summer, but you never know. Fox might decide to give it another season later on down the road. We just can't confirm it right now. What we can do is take a look at how Kitchen Nightmares season 7 performed for Fox. So, let's go ahead and do that. According to the Live Nielsen ratings, Kitchen Nightmares season 7 averaged 1.559 million Live viewers per episode,...

With the fall TV season well underway, broadcasters are beginning to get a sense of whether they have a hit on their hands with their new shows — and if fans will keep showing up for long-standing unscripted favorites as the Hollywood strikes has kept scripted fare off the schedule.
Several of this season’s launches benefitted from NFL game lead-ins, including overall ratings winner “60 minutes” (CBS), which scored a 1.73 rating in the key 18-49 broadcast demo during its Sept. 17 debut, according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day figures. This season’s runner-up for highest rating was Fox’s “Krapopolis,” which premiered as the most-watched animation series debut of the past decade with a 1.18 rating following an NFL doubleheader.
Other high-ranking premiere contenders include unscripted favorites like CBS’ “Survivor,” which scored a 0.84 rating, ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” which locked down a 0.64 demo rating, and NBC’s “The Voice,” which drew a 0.6 rating.
