After 24 years Network Ten has axed flagship music program Video Hits.
Current hosts Faustina Agolley and Dylan Lewis will officially sign off on the final show, Saturday 6 August with a retrospective from the best moments from the past two decades.
Video Hits premiered on Ten on 15 February 1987, originally as a video-clip based program before evolving to include interviews, hosts, live music events and presenting partners and tours to its format.
The Australian reports Sports Tonight is also cancelled and across the network 60 editorial, engineering and operations roles have been cut while up to 40 non-contract staff have told they were no longer needed.
The newspaper also reports that no presenters have been axed but the roles of George Negus and Sandra Sully remain uncertain. Ten also closed down its publicity and marketing departments in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Nick Charles, CNN's first sports anchor, lost his battle with bladder cancer on Saturday (June 25). He was 64.
Charles, the son of a taxi driver, grew up in Chicago. He himself got behind the wheel of a cab when putting himself through college. When he got his first job as a sports anchor he was told that his Greek name -- Nick Nickleas -- was too ethnic. So he changed it to Charles.
Along with Fred Hickman, Charles co-anchored CNN's "Sports Tonight" for 20 years. In 2009, he was diagnosed with cancer. In March, Charles said he hoped to make it through one more Easter, see his daughter play the piano, see his dream home completed and reach his 65th birthday on June 30. According to CNN, he made three out of four.
On Saturday, boxer Mike Tyson remember Charles on Twitter: "Mourning the loss of a true warrior. My friend & brother, Nick Charles.

Renowned CNN sports anchor and boxing announcer Nick Charles has lost the most important fight of all: his battle against bladder cancer. The beloved sportscaster, best known for his commentary on Sports Tonight, passed away Saturday after battling the disease since 2009, according to CNN. Charles's wife, Cory, told the network his death was a peaceful one, however, saying he died gazing at the land he cherished in Santa Fe, N.M. Although Charles' career catapulted while he co-anchored Sports Tonight with Fred Hickman (Charles even had his own sports trading card), he actually started working for the network on the day of its inception, June 1, 1980. Charles, an avowed...

Sports and web series are like egg nog and Canadian Whisky—mixed together they make even the worst of Mondays mornings tolerable. Athletes are natural pranksters and the world of sports is so rife for parody it’s no wonder jocks make the best SNL hosts. By now, we thought Espn’s plucky send-up Mayne Street and Vuguru’s Back on Topps have thoroughly mined the world of sports cameos, not to mention the one-on-self athelte punking Double Take (watch Shaq’s ep again) that bowed in November. But then comes this latest call-up, an indie comedy, Sports Ballz, from creators Jason Schmid and Jake Bern in its initial run on Funny or Die. Australia's Channel Ten has admitted that Neighbours "needs work" following the soap's recent ratings slump. The long-running serial has this year been pulling in some of its lowest ever audience figures in its home country, with the show's milestone 6,000th episode now just weeks away. In recent days, there has been a flurry of speculation surrounding the drama's future on Ten. Some reports have suggested that the programme could be shunted from its 6.30pm timeslot to make way for Sports Tonight, while others have stated that it could be shifted to Ten's new digital channel in 2011. Responding to the rumours, Ten's head of programming David Mott told The Sunday Telegraph: "There's certainly a lot of speculation in the landscape, (more)...

Sometimes in sports, an event occurs that seems to be straight of a movie. A buzzer beater to win the championships, a walk off homerun for the series, or an impossible catch to keep a drive alive all qualify in this case. Espn The Magazine has seized on the human and sometimes amazing drama of sports for their web series: NFL Writers Room. Right from the kickoff, you must realize that this is a web series for football Fans, not just people who like one team, but people who are familiar with every game, player, coach, and throwback uniform design.
