Derren Brown: Trick or Treat
jboothmillard5 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I have always liked the programmes where psychological mind illusionist Derren Brown has played a trick on an innocent individual, in amongst his other many "magic" tricks in "Trick of the Mind". This programme was the ultimate chance to see more of this big trick on an individual. Basically many people had answered to an article in the newspaper, and Brown selected six of those applicants to take part. Every one would be met unexpectedly in a normal situation, sign a contract (allwoing Brown to do as he wishes), and then the individual would select either Treat, a pleasant experience, or Trick, the opposite. (I should note, one episode, you discovered the word "Trick" is on both cards, upside down and vice versa). In the show the two Treats were a woman almost winning professional poker using bluff skills, and a young girl forgetting she could play piano, and doing it in front of an audience. The two Tricks though were more memorable, including: taking a man (unconsciously) to a foreign country, making a man believe he is a ventriloquist's dummy, making a man temporarily insane, and making a girl believe she has died in a car crash. I can't wait for another series. Very good!

A tad disappointed

I love Derren Brown, so when I saw this series advertised I was elated to say the least. However, I felt each episode was lacking. Instead of doing the brief little tricks he did, I would have rather spent more time with the person who was doing the trick or treat. That part of the show seemed very rushed and I definitely wanted more from it.

I still loved the series, don't get me wrong. It just wasn't my favourite from Derren Brown.

He is an absolute genius and everything he does leaves you in awe. How lucky are we that he has chosen his powers for good, rather than evil. (well - what we are aware of anyway)

Yay! Derren is back!

Same knife edge/edge of your seat type stuff that only Derren could do ;)

The chocolate roll thing (NOT saying what it is!) had me open mouthed! And there is always something to look out for behind the scenes, hidden away just out of view. As usual, loved it ;D But knowing Derren's shows you should really watch twice, there's always something that you missed, which I am sure is to his utter pleasure... If anyone has read the papers and seen what is to come, then absolutely everyone will be watching and holding their breath next week for his newest, no doubt controversial, trick.

And that is exactly what this is, controversial. Some people will watch thinking that this is very wrong and shocking and others will sit and see just how far Derren can push boundaries without going too far and supply us with some great, way way way above the average entertainment.

If you didn't see it this week then definitely watch it next, it looks like there are surprises to come... Can't wait.
