The SWAT leader wears a C.I.B, or Combat Infantry Badge, on her vest. The C.I.B. is awarded only to Army Infantry soldiers who have served in combat. Though she makes a reference to having "seen action" she still would not have been awarded a C.I.B. The reason is that in the Army women are not permitted to serve as Infantry soldiers. Even if she had been attached to an Infantry unit and been in combat with them she is still not eligible to receive the C.I.B. No non Infantry soldier, male or female, can receive that award.
On her tactical vest, Lieutenant Connie Reubens (played by Michael Hyatt) wears a Combat Infantryman Badge, indicating prior combat service with the Army as an infantry soldier. At the time of the series being released, Combat Arms occupations were closed to female soldiers; ergo, she could not have been Infantry in the Army, and would not have been eligible to receive a Combat Infantryman badge. The decision to open all Combat Arms fields to female soldiers did not come about until eight years after the series was published.
