(Some light spoilers ahead for “Fall River,” Episode 1 titled “My Soul To Keep.”)
Sex for sale, satanic cults, addiction and a streak of brutal murders of young women too gruesome to fathom are all brought to light in a four-part docuseries “Fall River” from Blumhouse Television and premiering May 16 on Epix.
Almost 90 years after Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her stepmother 40 whacks in Fall River, Massachusetts, another macabre killing spree hit the quaint, historic New England city. It began on Oct. 13, 1979, when the naked body of Doreen Levesque, a homeless 17-year-old girl, was found under the high school bleachers. She was tied up with fishing wire, her head and face were crushed with a rock and, as private investigator Chris Hayes put it, “This girl had a baseball bat shoved inside of her.”

HBO Max has ordered a two-part documentary about the life and death of actress Brittany Murphy from Blumhouse Television, the streaming service said Thursday.
Per its official description, the untitled doc “presents an in-depth, intimate character portrait exploring the life and career and mysterious circumstances surrounding the tragic death of ’90s actress and rising star, Brittany Murphy.” HBO Max says “the series will go beyond the conspiracy theories and headlines, featuring new interviews by those closest to Brittany and new archival footage.”
The star of films like “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” “Uptown Girls” and “Girl, Interrupted,” Murphy went into cardiac arrest and died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Dec. 20, 2009, after reportedly collapsing at the Los Angeles home she shared with her husband, Simon Monjack. Her official cause of death was ruled pneumonia.

HBO Max has ordered a documentary about the late actor Brittany Murphy. The two-part series hails from Blumhouse Television and Pyramid Productions.
The documentary will explore the life and death of Murphy, who was best known for the film “Clueless” and whose other credits included “8 Mile,” “Just Married” and the Fox animated comedy series “King of the Hill.” She died in 2009 at the age of 32. Though her death was ruled an accident and determined to be the result of a combination of pneumonia and the effects of several over-the-counter drugs she had taken, the death one year later of her husband has fueled speculation about her passing.
“Our Brittany Murphy documentary cuts through the tabloid noise with an elevated, nuanced depiction of a sensational story,” said Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president, non-fiction and live-action family programming, HBO Max. “Crafting a grounded account of Brittany Murphy’s life struggles and...

Comcast-backed Sky has outlined plans for expanded and “cinematic” original content to rival U.S. networks HBO and Showtime. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival on Thursday, Sky managing director of content Zai Bennett explained some of the ways the pay-tv giant plans to invest in original content after its programming budget was recently doubled by new owner Comcast.
Bennett said there would be a steady ramp-up in spending and output over the next five years, with the “vast amount” of the money being devoted to channels Sky One and Sky Atlantic. Comcast announced in June that Sky’s original programming budget would increase from approximately £500 million ($612 million) to £1 billion ($1.2 billion) in five years.
Sky Atlantic, which is home to shows such as “Chernobyl,” produced by HBO in association with Sky U.K., is purely for “chewy, grown-up, immersive, challenging drama that stands shoulder to shoulder with HBO and Showtime around the world,...

Oxygen’s “Murder and Justice: The Cast of Martha Moxley” reexamines a case that went unsolved for 44 years. A case that was strangely linked to the Kennedy family.
Martha Moxley was murdered on Oct. 30, 1975, just one year after her family had moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. She was 15 years old and was found beneath a tree on her own lawn after someone had bludgeoned her with a golf club and then stabbed her in the neck with the handle. For 23 years, the case stalled, until her former neighbor, Michael Skakel, who was also 15 at the time of the murder, was arrested. Host Laura Coates opens up the case in the special, and describes the case as “a remarkably striking and terrifying experience.”
“As a mom, I cannot imagine what it has been like for the family,” Coates, a former prosecutor specializing in sex, drugs and elderly crimes, told TheWrap. “Will there ever be justice for Martha?...
