Sex & Nudity

  • Some sexual references and suggestive flirting.
  • Two brief sensual scenes. Nothing is seen other than torsos and faces. You quickly see a butt once. They're probably a few seconds each.
  • Kissing and one funny striptease scene.
  • A quick scene in which 2 characters go into a bathroom and another character kneels down to presumably perform oral sex. There's no nudity and it immediately cuts to the next scene.
  • 2 extremely distant nude photos of models shown for comedic effect.

Violence & Gore

  • A couple mentions of gay men being attacked and murdered for their sexuality.
  • Police attack groups of gay men. Protesters march on city hall, disconnecting power and disabling a cable car. A character reminisces about gay activists rioting in Spain, saying, "There was blood literally running in the gutter."

Profanity

  • 15 uses of the word "fuck.
  • 6 uses of the word "shit".
  • Constant uses of slurs against the gay community--including "f*ggot", "queers", etc.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Characters are seen drinking different varieties of alcohol in several scenes, and Dan White is clearly drunk in one scene. Scott is clearly seen smoking pot in a couple scenes, plus tobacco use is frequent.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A couple of scenes show people who have been beaten, and one shot of a man's dead body after a fatal hate crime (some blood is seen on the shirt).

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • The assassination scene shows the first bullet hitting Harvey in the hand; skin flies on impact. The next two thud into each of his shoulders. Harvey finds himself kneeling on the floor, staring out the window as Dan White administers a final, unseen bullet to the back of his head.
  • Dan White also kills San Francisco's mayor, but the murder takes place behind closed doors, the gunshots muffled.
  • Before all of that, Harvey receives two death threatsone of them graphically illustrated. Jack hangs himself. (We see the dangling corpse.) And Harvey mentions that of his four long-term partners, three have tried to commit suicide.
