Informative and insightful look at a meeting between descendants on opposite sides of slavery
zhantao-yang23 March 2014
Dr. Martin Luther King said in his "I have a Dream" speech that he dreamed one day the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners would be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. 45 years later, this documentary addressed this issue in a unique way, by indeed bringing together the descendant of a former slave and the descendant of a former slave owner, from the same plantation, with the same name, to the spot where their ancestors played out their lives. It was so great to see a documentary that addressed the issue of racial inequality in such a unique and informative way, a wonderful look at the healing process that America must have and continue to have. It looks at slavery and America's past in a way that shows both sides, and shows the progress that African Americans have made, but also the long road ahead to fight against negativity. I loved the fact that the two men had a honest conversation with each other about the progress America has made in addressing racism. This movie should be shown in every school in America.
