The Empire Strikes Back

This is part one of what I call the Rubeus arc and it's a dark start indeed. Chibi Usa I always felt despite a girl of noble intention, but she is weak in a sense, from not just her lack of patience which is true about most to all kids though there are even adults that also still lack it. But the worst part of all is faithlessness.

When we see in the last episode, she inadvertently finds out the identity of Sailor Moon, which I'll admit at first seemed like a plot hole in the story as from the future and tied to them all, but like I said at first there is some explanation for Chibi Usa's unknowing in part two. From this discovery her perception of Sailor Moon is shaken, it's like with a lot of people with hero worship how sometimes their admiration is higher than their perception of reality, that the heroes and superheroes are also human.

There is one scene where we see Chibi Usa hears Usagi's mom has made Usagi pancakes but unfortunately Usagi spoils her own appetite when she scarfed on Makoto's baked cookies. Not that this is a big deal or anything but you would think Usagi would be considerate to save herself for what her mom made for her. It kind of tells a little about Usagi's character not just in her own lack of patience but that part of the reason Usagi is the way she is, she may have been a bit overly spoiled when she was about Chibi Usa's age, getting too much of what she wanted which made Usagi take her mom's love for granted. Though this also may 'be also what's happened with Chibi Usa and why she acts the way she does.

It's sort of understandable why with this one little thing Chibi Usa would put her off and make her thing Usagi and think she's not worthy to be Sailor Moon and the silver crystal. However, Chibi Usa is making a premature judgement on her part because all she saw was one aspect in just one day, of Usagi's life and character but not the whole story.

This all makes Chibi Usa's desperation in completing her mission grow to a terrible peak and she of course acts on it by committing an unethical act by stealing the silver crystal and then running away. Of course, everyone goes out to find her, like one scene where we see Chibi Usa at Mamou's place and then he has a little Tuxedo Mask puppet and puts on a little act to cheer her up. This scene is interesting as it's sort of a little hint at whom Mamoru might be to her, as what Mamoru does is much like how any dad would try to cheer up a sad daughter.

But she doesn't stay once she overhears Marmou contacting the others, she becomes paranoid and runs away. She then once again is driven by her faithlessness and despite even the Sailor Senchi catching up and trying to reassure her, it doesn't work as her paranoia and faithlessness is clouding her better judgement. And we with no one to turn to except her own desperation, which to me is never an ally it's a con artist that makes false promises it never delivers on. You can also say, the whole whole thing is Chibi Usa's own desire to be a hero like Sailor Moon. This desire we see has turned to desperation as it makes her want to take the quick and easy path which we all know is not always the best way to go. And from this Chibi Usa we see makes a stupid move by trying to go back to the future, but she just draws Rubeus to where she is and of course the Sailor Senchi they get her out of the way before Rubeus with his crystal UFO abducts the senchi.

From what happens it showed the awful extent of Chibi Usa's faithlessness in all that is good. After what happens I don't blame Usagi's anger at Chibi Usa she has a right to be, let alone right because it was Chibi Usa's fault. Chibi Usa 's actions proved one thing that she doesn't have what it takes to be a hero.

As an old saying goes, "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." Chibi Usa has unfortunately taken her first big step.

Rating: 4 stars.
