I must have watched a different film
watanaquat31 October 2023
I will give it this. It was a different take on Greek mythology. The acting was third rate at best. The technical was high school. Sorry.... I don't get the great reviews this is receiving. I must be out of touch. I was cringing at the lines delivered by the actors and actresses. It was only my incredulity that took me to the end. Honestly...this is one of the worst films given the best reviews I have ever seen. I am only going to give it two stars because whomever wrote the script deserves some credit for the uniqueness of the content and the overall theme. I encourage all students of film to watch it to understand what not to do.

Entertaining and Thought Provoking
indysaini24 February 2023
Interesting and entertaining exploration into the dark side of buying into the reality that surrounds you. What seems like a straight forward action drama turns a corner quickly into mystery and intrigue. At first I had no idea where it was going, or what was going on, but it kept me wanting to know more, and understand the crazy world we ended up in. Offering dynamic fight scenes, it is well acted by the entire cast and cleverly directed by Julian Hampton, with themes of power, loyalty and what one does for true friendship. I highly recommend this creative and original thought provoking film.

Action with an Unexpected Turn
catheraneskillen22 February 2023
Went in expecting just another action movie and was, instead, taken on a wild ride I wasn't expecting. Very imaginative with a very involved story line that kept me on the edge of my seat. Leslie A. Jones, who played Rucker, was excellent throughout. Indie films don't have the benefit of big studio money and technicians, so it makes it all the more distinctive that director Julian Vaughan Hampton created this film with the elements of a very large cast, many locations, and well-executed fight scenes. The locations were especially impressive both interior and exterior. I will keep him on my radar.

A modern twist on Classic Mythology
ath062922 November 2023
Fighting Olympus is a unique action film that dives into the world of Greek mythology. In this modern-day adaptation of the Odyssey, Rucker (Leslie A. Jones) goes in search of his kidnapped brother Biddle ( Devinar Mathis). He must endure many trials in his journey to Hades.

While it is evident that Writer/ Director Julian Hampton was on a tight independent film budget, he is able to effectively tell the story.

On a personal note, I wish I had studied Greek mythology a little more. While I was able to recognize many of the names of the Greek gods and goddesses, I would have liked to see how the characters paralleled their Greek counterparts.

Clash of the Titans in a Dystopian LA Action-Thriller
nathan-3071510 March 2023
20 minutes into Julian Hampton's taut action movie Fighting Olympus the plot takes a bold literary turn as we suddenly realize we are no longer watching a familiar dystopian LA thriller and find ourselves, literally, in the realm of the Gods. Anchored by Leslie Jones's central performance as Rucker, a tough and compassionate ex-cop determined to find his kidnapped brother, Biddle (Devinair Mathis) and infiltrate a violent cult modeled after the Greek pantheon, writer-director-exec producer Hampton's debut feature delivers plenty of plot twists, fatal femmes, muzzle flash and martial arts battles to keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. Don't miss it!

Great Action!
catchengery13 February 2024
It is amazing what these filmmakers were able to accomplish. This is a HUGE movie full of big sets, exotic locations, tons of characters and TONS of action. Gun battles, hand to hand combat, you name it! This movie delivers them ALL. It's really inspiring to see what can be achieved without big Hollywood budgets when you've got creativity and a great group of creative, willing and talented people. But it's not JUST the spectacle that makes this movie watching. The story is EPIC! Twists and turns, colorful characters and a great, core story of love and family anchoring it all. See it to believe it!

An Action movie with a lot of twist.
mettlesetdesigner4 June 2023
Looking at the poster and reading the description for Fighting Olympus made me figure this is a movie that my partner is going to enjoy more than me. Oh, was I wrong. This movie is not just a shoot 'em up action type feature (which it does well by the way). The story line is imaginative and involved and full of twists and turns I was not expecting. I won't give spoilers or plot twists but I liked the way the writer pointed to characters from ancient greek myths like Hades, Athena and Medusa. The actress who played Medusa was AMAZING in the role. She is perfect as the disfigured woman out for revenge. Lastly, I must give a big shout out to the stunt/choreography people. The hand-to-hand combat scenes are exciting and a lot of work must have gone into those fight scenes. Two thumbs up!!

Cool story!
travisgrenke18 February 2024
I had no idea I was going to be watching action with greek mythology! I also have an interest in cults and the mysterious. This movie had such a unique story line and writing and actor performances. There were many moments that I was thrilled by watching and also many various moments that the action and dialogue and plot kept me wondering what was going to happen next. I think the writing was unique, original, and also exquisite for a movie like this one. I hope to see a follow up to it and I think the director and film team also have a lot of talent for and indie movie. I'll also look to see the actors in other roles they'll play.

A daring new twist on Greek Mythology!
IanGabrielG16 June 2023
Writer/Director Julian Hamptons thriller is far more than what it seems to be. Yes, the cinematography, Choreography, and locations are all excellent. The acting is very good, especially that of Leslie A. Jones and the girl that plays medusa. The relationship between the character of Rucker and his brother was realistic and the chemistry was palpable. Yes, this film has a lot of good qualities but the one thing that kept me hooked was that Julian created an underworld that paralleled that of Greek Mythology, featuring characters as Athena, Medusa, Ares, and Hades; That was a breath of fresh air! Creating content that studios haven't conceived is what indie filmmaking is all about. This film is more than just another action thriller. The depth of the world created kept me hooked till the very end. Highly recommend.

Gritty Criminal Underworld Movie
prjbii-3268129 March 2023
"Fighting Olympus" certainly understands the importance and power of relationships necessary for a buddy cop movie and the two leads - Leslie Jones and Devinair Mathis - readily put that on display. You sense a real chemistry between the two and they never felt forced.

From the opening shots over Echo Park to the sweeping aerials of inner-city Los Angeles, the director understands the mood and feel of the city.

I love a good Los Angeles cop movie and "Fighting Olympus" offers something unique by plugging a little Greek mythology into the mix as our heroes plunge into the depths of a violent criminal underworld.

Hell on a Budget
mvanderwalz29 February 2024
"Fighting Olympus" takes us on a journey to the underworld of Hades, where gods and demons control the fate of humanity. This movie has a cool urban vibe to it, juxtaposing SWAT team culture with the dingy, dark underworld. A man is sent to find his brother and a pesky news reporter who have gone missing - presumed dead. As he descends, he finds Hades, Athena, Medusa, Persephone, Poseidon, Apollo - all your favorite Greek gods. Movie contains some decent fight scenes and choreography. Kudos to hair, makeup and the costume designer for creating a unique look and setting for the movie. Definitely worth watching.

A Greek Odyssey Set in Los Angeles
jae-133727 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
'Fighting Olympus' is a fun re-imagination of Greek mythology conceived as an action flick taking place in modern day Los Angeles. However, the movie doesn't live in the picture-perfect destinations of La La Land but transports us into a parallel underworld that feels gritty and dangerous, reminiscent of the John Wick series. Familiar characters such as Apollo, Medusa, and Hades with their own messy histories and agendas make an appearance along the way, adding color and depth to the story. A diverse cast, which is a welcome decision given the tradition of Greek mythology, combined with no-nonsense action and moments of levity, give this odyssey an entertaining and unique flavor!

This film isn't just a run-of-the-mill shoot 'em up action feature.
oliviaphilip12 November 2023
This film isn't just a run-of-the-mill shoot 'em up action feature (although it executes that aspect impressively). The storyline is remarkably imaginative, intricate, and filled with unexpected twists and turns that kept me thoroughly engaged. Without revealing any spoilers, I appreciated the clever nods to characters from ancient Greek myths like Hades, Athena, and Medusa. Reading the synopsis for "Fighting Olympus," I assumed it would be more up my partner's alley than mine. To my pleasant surprise, I couldn't have been more mistaken. I give it two thumbs up and recommend you watch "Fighting Olympus".

An interesting and wild ride.
undergroundprods9 November 2023
An imaginative take on Greek mythology with strong direction by Julian Hampton. There was great production, sound design, music, lighting and some beautiful and impressive shots. Julian Hampton did very well making the picture look bigger than I'm sure his indie budget allowed. Some excellent choreographed fight scenes. Good movie!
directortim201221 February 2023
I'll admit right away that I have a fascination for cults. They're incredibly disturbing, but they also fascinate me. So seeing a film where the good guy is out to take on a malicious cult? That's going to be right up my alley. But besides the plot, I also enjoyed this movie because the action was so good. Done with style and shot really well. A well directed movie and a wild ride, too. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. And most importantly, even though I liked a certain style the film had, what made me care was that I believed the reality of what I was watching. That's a big compliment from me! A very solid thumbs up for this one!

Action & Mythology
dtittone18 February 2023
In "Fighting Olympus," writer/director Julian Hampton crafts an intriguing film that blends a contemporary story with Greek Mythology. Leslie A. Jones proves himself to be an effective leading man with his powerful performance as a man doing whatever it takes to rescue his brother. As he undertakes the 'hero' journey towards the underworld, he encounters a multitude of Greek legends: Athena, Medusa, etc. The action is intense and contains many excellent fight sequences. Overall, this is an entertaining, action-packed film with intriguing characters and a great story. I highly recommend this film!
