Micheline Presle, the French actress whose controversial Devil in the Flesh role was the start of a career that included starring opposite John Garfield, Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn and Paul Newman, has died at 101.
Presle died Wednesday in the Paris suburb of Nogent-sur-Marne, her son-in-law, Olivier Bomsel, told Le Figaro.

She was soon signed by 20th Century Fox, which changed her surname to Prelle and cast her as a café owner who falls in love with a crooked jockey (Garfield) in Jean Negulesco’s Under My Skin (1950). Micheline Presle, the standout French actress who starred in the controversial Devil in the Flesh before making a foray into Hollywood that included roles opposite John Garfield, Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn and Paul Newman, has died. She was 101.
Presle died Wedneday in the Paris suburb of Nogent-sur-Marne, her son-in-law Olivier Bomsel told Le Figaro.
Presle came to international attention when she portrayed a nurse having an affair with a student (Gérard Philipe) in the World War I drama Devil in the Flesh (1947), which the National Board of Review voted as one of the 10 best films of the year.
Because it featured a woman who took a lover while her husband was away at war, it generated a great deal of discussion.
In 1949, Presle met American actor William Marshall, who had been married to another French star, Michèle Morgan, and followed him to America. They would wed that year in Santa Barbara.

Quentin Tarantino is going to make his self-declared “final” film in his hometown of Los Angeles, and the Golden State is welcoming the Oscar winner with open and lucrative arms.
Snaring $20,213,000 for #10, the Oscar winner was among 16 films conditionally approved for $77.8 million in total tax incentives today by the California Film Commission.
“I love shooting in California,” Tarantino said today
“I started directing movies here and it is only fitting that I shoot my final motion picture in the cinema capital of the world,” the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood director added of the film that has been bandied about as The Movie Critic in recent months. “There is nothing like shooting in my hometown; the crews are the best I’ve ever worked with, and the locations are amazing. The producers and I are thrilled to be making #10 in Los Angeles.”

At least one blockbuster project headlines the titles selected to receive tax credits to shoot in California.
The state’s film office on Friday said that California’s Film & TV tax credit program will welcome a trio of feature films, including Quentin Tarantino’s The Movie Critic, as well as a roster of 13 independent films. (No studio is currently attached to The Movie Critic yet.)
Netflix ($20 million) is the only major studio nabbing credits in this allotment for an untitled film. Lionsgate ($21.1 million) led the way in the previous round of incentives and Netflix and Warner Bros. in the previous four before that.
Tarantino’s final project, listed as “#10” in a nod to his 10th and final movie and produced through L. Driver Productions ($20.2 million), tops the list for the three feature titles that were conditionally granted incentives. Quentin Tarantino’s 10th and what he has teased as his final movie will shoot in Los Angeles and has qualified to receive $20 million in tax credits for filming in the state of California, the California Film Commission announced Friday.
Several times a year, the California Film Commission announces a crop of studio and independent films that can qualify to receive state tax credits as an incentive for filming within California. This quarter, Tarantino’s project — which he submitted to the Commission simply as “#10” — is among the three big-budget studio projects and 13 indies that meet the criteria for shooting within state lines and will generate enough jobs and “qualified spending.” The 16 projects qualify for a combined $77.8 million in tax credits.

The outing, dubbed “The Psychotherapy Sessions,” features support from Coal Chamber, Gwar, Nonpoint, and Butcher Babies, with tickets available here.
Mudvayne reunited in 2021 after going on hiatus in 2010. While this tour marks Mudvayne’s first run as a lone headliner since 2009, the band did co-headline the “Freaks on Parade Tour” with Rob Zombie in 2022.
The Thursday night set featured Mudvayne performing 15 songs, including seven tunes from their classic 2000 album, L.D. 50. In recent months, frontman Chad Gray has dropped hints on social media that new music is in the works.
Meanwhile, for Coal Chamber, this marks their first proper tour in eight years, following a couple of festival gigs in recent weeks. Dez Fafara and company performed 12 songs, including four each from their 1997 self-titled debut and 2002’s Dark Days.

Cannes Film Festival’s longtime director Thierry Fremaux sat down with Variety following the announcement of this year’s lineup, which includes a bevy of star-studded period movies, including Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Karim Aïnouz’s “Firebrand” and Jonathan Glazer’s “Zone of Interest.” Along with a raft of politically-minded films, there’s also a record six movies directed by female helmers in competition, including newcomers like Senegalese direcotr Ramata-Toulaye Sy’s feature debut “Banel et Adama.”
Fremaux said his only regret this year is to miss out on “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie,” but he’s keeping high hopes to convince Scorsese to vie for a second Palme d’Or 47 years after winning his first with “Taxi Driver.” He also revealed that as many as two or three movies are expected to be added to the competition next week, after Directors’ Fortnight and Critics’ Week announce their respective lineups.

If 2020 has taught us anything it is that we need to be happy with ourselves and the life we live in. Under My Skin is a movie that shows the difficulties of making choices, and how these choices change the relationships we are in.
Denny is a free spirited artist, who falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer. When Denny begins to question their gender, it starts to test the love between the two.

A new trailer has arrived for ‘Under My Skin’, an independent feature starring four non-binary actors in its ensemble cast.
The story follows Denny (they/them), a free-spirited artist falls for Ryan, a strait-laced lawyer climbing the corporate ladder. Young love ensues, but when Denny begins to explore gender, Ryan’s ingrained values are challenged. As Denny finds they can no longer ignore their true self, pressures and tensions mount with Ryan, and the couple seek to negotiate the shifting sands.
The feature debut of Australian writer-director David O’Donnell, the lead character, Denny, is played by four different actors who identify as non-binary, or trans non-binary: Hewson, Bobbi Salvor Menuez and newcomers Lex Ryan, Chloe Freeman. Alex Russell and Alexis Denisof also star.
Also in trailers – Johnny Flynn is David Bowie in trailer for ‘Stardust’
The film received its World Premiere at Raindance Film Festival last night, 29th of October.

The lead character, Denny, is played by four different actors who identify as non-binary, or trans non-binary: Liv Hewson, Bobbi Salvör Menuez, and newcomers Lex Ryan and Chloe Freeman. The cast includes Alex Russell and Alexis Denisof. I'm very curious to see how this film handles sexual identity as a key part of the story. Here's the official...

Liv Hewson stars as Denny, a free-spirited artist, who falls for a straight-laced, corporate lawyer named Ryan, played by Alex Russell; but the young romance is tested when Denny begins to explore their gender identity. Though the film has yet to debut, Hewson is nominated for Best Performance at the fest for their role.
Alexis Denisof also stars in the movie, which marks the feature debut of Australian writer-director David O’Donnell. The film is produced by Raynen O’Keefe and Russell. Executive producers are Paul Nelson, Paul Bernard, Tim Larson and Mary Larson.
