DON'T
ashfordofficial3 December 2021
Directed by Edgar Wright with a stunning voice-over by Will Arnett, featuring an ensemble cast of popular actors. If they expanded this short into more than 2 minutes, it would've been better.

Warning: Spoilers
In this little short film called "Don't", writer and director Edgar Wright tells you what actions to avoid and what choices to go for in order to make sure you do not end up in situations that could be part of a horror film with you being the victim. Wright turns 50 next in six months and this was from 2007, so he was in his early/mid 30s still. But he was already a really successful filmmaker, so it is no surprise if you read the names of the pretty big players who show up in here. The voice actor is Will Arnett, maybe one of the biggest names from the cast if you wanna call them that. He is not seen, but featured more than the others really who are just in it for a second or not even that. I will not mention all the names of the cast members now as you can read this for yourself, but some of them are seen so briefly that it could turn into quite a challenger to identify every single one of them, even if you have the cast list available. Like I am a huge Katie Melua fan, saw her in concert more than once, but yet failed to identify her here although I watched this short even twice.

It runs for not even 100 seconds, so it is really, really short and a lot happens here, so it is all very rushed. But this was a creative decision of course, just like how it was a creative decision to have the narrator (Arnett) talk relatively slowly in contrast to the fast action. Towards the end, he only repeats the title of the film anyway. There may be some horrible content depicted on the screen, but it is really always a comedy. Best example for that is probably the guy down there in the basement who is chained to his bed. Of course, if you run into something like this, such a person, you will be scared, but seeing this on a screen is not too scary. I guess this is really all I can say about this (very) short film. I think seeing it only once is sufficient, but to be honest I also think that if you skip the watch you will not be missing much. It is fine as a little addition to "Grindhouse" and if you see it in this context, then that is totally enough. You will also not really discover anything new if you give it a go several times. Admittedly, with the brief duration, it is also not a huge waste of time though. I give it a thumbs-down. Not recommended and also not as funny as I hoped it would be given the really decent imdb rating. The Breaking of the Fourth Wall towards the end was among the more interesting inclusions and even that was nothing too special. As I stated earlier, there is a lot of content in very little time here. Still, don't watch.
