I was surprised by some comments about these guys being unauthentic, or disrespectful to other cultures. I didn't feel that way throughout the show at all. Frankly, if there was an experiment with several other westerner couples going through what they experienced, I wouldn't expect different comments or reactions to some of the rituals- this is how authentic I felt they were.
In my view it's just a show with a great scenery and beautiful photography, and a very relatable idea behind it...different ways of looking at commitment, love and compromise, both individually and within different cultures. And all happening while a couple discovers and evolves with each-other, going through the struggle of spending way too much time together (this is why many divorces happen after vacations by the way).
I am not saying it is a masterpiece, I also don't think it was intended as such, but frankly it was very entertaining and a lot better than I expected. If there is a season 2, who knows, maybe about kids education around the world, I am definitely watching it (and will expect credit for the idea) :)
