Will we ever be able to or can we ever eradicate extreme poverty? Answer is no as that means leaving 50% of the population behind!!!!!
The world bank however has estimated that about 1 billion people have been lifted out of global poverty in last 15 years. In 1990, as data shows there were 1.8 billion people were living in extreme poverty. China showed dramatic results by lifting around 600 million people out of extreme poverty since then. $1.90 a day is the determining threshold criteria. However, the number of people living under poverty has increased in Africa. Among them, there are more women than men who live under this poverty line. Unfortunately, poverty is not the only challenge that we are dealing with. There are other core issues such as clean water, education, plastic pollution and its horrendous side effects, women empowerment and last but not the least that we often overlook or miss a cash bail, an overdue reform of the justice system! Often many criminals (guilty or charged) can not afford cash bail. Justice must prevail equally irrespective of social or economic status of a person.
Even though the series is more of a propaganda and focuses mostly on fund raising rather than real tasks at hands at grassroots and success clearly translates to the numbers (millions) on a whiteboard and also, seems peripheral. Touche-n-go kind, it is still informative and didactic.
