She does a body good
Davian_X6 December 2023
Starting off - briefly - in more standard sex fare at the dawn of the hardcore era, Terry Sullivan's Athena Films quickly pivoted to fetish content as the decade progressed, carving out a niche for itself with weirdo titles like TERRI'S LESSON IN TORMENT and FARMER'S DAUGHTER & HER PUNISHMENT PONY. Even by these standards, however, MILK LADY is something else - the ne plus ultra of vintage hardcore lactation fetish, at least during an era when such specific segmentation rarely moved beyond the 8 and possibly 16mm home consumer markets.

Based on a contemporaneous Hustler review, the extant version seems to capture all the proceedings despite being narratively discontinuous. Star Justine Taylor is the wonderfully named Annie Titford, first glimpsed in a clinic being overseen by the unscrupulous Dr. Peen. Whatever complaint Annie's come in with, the good doc thinks she might have cancer, and naturally orders an extensive breast exam and testing of a milk sample to get to the bottom of things. At first opting for suction cups but not seeing the expected results, the good doctor next moves on to manual and then oral extraction, as cliched "farm"-style harmonica music plays on the soundtrack. He even seizes the opportunity to simultaneously take Annie's temperature - rectally, natch. When all this still doesn't net enough information, the doc orders an injection, and a nervous Annie asks if there's anything he can provide to relieve her potential discomfort. After putting her out with a dose of nitrous, no prizes for guessing exactly what gets injected - and where.

Next scene at first seems totally unconnected, finding a group of young guys and girls in a school park admonished by their principal (Sullivan himself) about their poor academic performance. Still displaying no interesting in sticking to the straight-and-narrow, the group instead heads back to one of their houses and throws a hot tub party that gets joined by Annie, with everyone soon getting down to the expected activities. With all that just a bit too milquetoast for Mr. Sullivan, however, things quickly progress to Annie having sex in a shower and lactating voluminously all over a long-haired hippie type, while the other guy hangs back with the other two girls and demonstrates a variety of by-now-antiquated sex toys. Final scene wraps things up in the principal's office, where Sullivan admonishes Annie for violating the school's strict moral standards, the lactation on the doctor's report obviously equating with pregnancy. Naturally, Annie finds a way back into the headmaster's good graces.

In terms of plot and structure, nothing here is particularly different from a typical low-end one-day wonder: the narrative barely hangs together, each scene seems divorced from the last, and production values are amateurish in the extreme. What differentiates MILK LADY, of course, is its go-for-broke approach to its taboo subject - unlike bait-and-switches like the similarly SF-lensed THE MILKMAID, which barely eeks out a couple drops of the white stuff, MILK LADY takes things to VISITOR Q levels, with every scene featuring the (quite literally) titular fluid splashed about with shocking abandon. For an era where "kink" in 35mm XXX generally constituted a (usually half-hearted) S&M scene or two - itself a legacy of softcore roughie formulas - MILK LADY anticipates the eventual extreme specialization of content into specific areas like lactation and medical fetish that we see today. In that regard, Sullivan really is a groundbreaker, and while MILK LADY may not blow anyone's mind with its superior story or deep understanding of cinematic technique, it's heartening to see that somewhere out there, there was one weird guy doing his own very weird thing and unleashing it on the unsuspecting porno palaces of America.
