Travis Kelce is being “Delicate” about details of how he first got in touch with Taylor Swift.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end wasn’t sure if he wanted to “get into all of it,” but he revealed that Swift’s team helped him behind the scenes.
“There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner [who said]: Yo! Did you know he was coming? I had somebody playing Cupid,” he said in an interview for a Wall Street Journal cover story. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”
Kelce tried to meet Swift when she played at Arrowhead Stadium in July on the Eras tour. On the “New Heights” podcast which he hosts with his brother Jason Kelce, who plays Center for the Philadelphia Eagles, Travis recounted the experience of trying to present Swift a friendship bracelet,...

When Mara Justine belted out Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” at the tail end of Monday’s Season 24 premiere of The Voice, John Legend, Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani and new coach on the block Reba McEntire lost their collective minds. But we didn’t find out until Tuesday’s episode which of them managed to recruit the four-chair turn, a veteran of America’s Got Talent and American Idol. (I was “meh” on Mara; have a listen below and see what you think.)

The Amazon Prime Video series “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has made a splash with its loaded soundtrack. By now it is safe to say that “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and Taylor Swift go hand in hand because author and show creator Jenny Han has made it so.
The first season had five Swift songs ranging from her “Lover” album to “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” and the Season 1 trailer debuted “This Love (Taylor’s Version)” from the yet-to-be-released re-recorded “1989.” Season 2’s teaser was set to “August,” and then the official trailer debuted “Back to December (Taylor’s Version)” shortly before “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released July 7. Only time will tell if Season 2 ties Season 1 for how many Taylor Swift songs it contains.
The sequel season’s summer-y soundtrack also contains hits from repeat artists Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Caroline Polachek and more. A Fleetwood Mac ballad punctuates a particularly emotional scene,...

When “The Girl from Plainville” creators Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus decided to tell the story of Michelle Carter — who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the “texting suicide” case of her boyfriend Conrad Roy — they were faced with an immediate challenge. “We had to remove our own bias,” Hannah told IndieWire. “The most fundamental conversation that Patrick and I had before we hired anybody for the show was approaching the characters with empathy and without judgment. It’s not our job to be the judge or jury, it’s our job to present it as it happened and present the characters in a way that we think is truthful to them and also shows sides that we haven’t seen before.”

“The choruses of ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ are doubled, Ozzy Osbourne-style,” says Brendan Brown, singer, songwriter, and sole remaining original member of Wheatus. “Those high notes have to be good or else they don’t work together, so sometimes it takes a little while.”
For the past hour, Brown, 46, has been re-recording the immortal refrain to his 2000 hit “Teenage Dirtbag” in his cramped home studio in the Bronx, New York. “‘Cause I’m just a teenage dirtbag, baby,” he sings during eight distinct vocal takes. “Yeah, I’m just a teenage dirtbag,...

Ruston Kelly pays tribute to some of his formative influences with the new project, Dirt Emo Vol. 1, which will be available October 11th. On Friday, the Nashville singer-songwriter, who released the album Dying Star in 2018, dropped a cover of Dashboard Confessional’s breakout hit “Screaming Infidelities” that features the band’s lead singer Chris Carrabba.
Originally a jangly, heartbroken anthem when it was released in 2002, “Screaming Infidelities” takes a turn toward gothic gloom in Kelly’s rendering. Stripped entirely of percussion, this new version is driven by piano and the...

This year, Amy Shark’s album Love Monster went to Number One in her native Australia. But in the United States, the indie pop singer is still unknown, which makes her cover of Wheatus’ “Teenage Dirtbag” for the Spotify Singles series even more appropriately self-deprecating. And because it is her favorite song, you learn a lot about her past and present when she talks about it on the Under Cover podcast.

Teenage Dirtbag, Baby: Shaw’s Odd, Amusing Portrait of Stylized Teen Angst

Iggy Azalea has gotten dinged up over the past year, but here on Lip Sync Battle, it's an even playing field. While a match-up against Azealia Banks would have been too perfect, she instead goes up against her husband-to-be, Nick Young. We've got to say, they are kind of cute together! He sings her "Sugar" and she sings him "Freak Me," and that, kids, is how babies are made. Battle 1: Iggy Azalea's "Teenage Dirtbag" vs. Nick Young's "Sugar" Maybe it's the song, but there's something a little sleepy about Amethyst's performance. All of the technical aspects are there. She hits her marks, does a good head-bang, and knows the words (which is more than we can say about her own music — eyy-o!), but it feels a little empty. Meanwhile, Nick Young isn't as strong of a performer — it's not clear that he actually knows all the words,...

(Spoiler alert: Please do not read if you haven’t watched Thursday’s “Lip Sync Battle.”) Iggy Azalea and Nick Young may need couple’s therapy following their traumatizing showdown on “Lip Sync Battle” Thursday. The young lovers went head-to-head on the hit Spike show as L.A. Lakers player Young proved he is just as talented with a mic as he is with a basketball. Australian hip-hop star Azalea definitely had an unfair advantage over her fiancé as she kicked off the action by rocking out with “Teenage Dirtbag” song by Wheatus, complete with a masterful hair flip. It Takes a Muscle: De Jong’s Debut a Vibrant Entry in Familiar Genre
So perhaps there is a room for a bit of inventiveness in the continual exploration of the bildungsroman, at least evidenced by Dutch director Sam de Jong’s directorial debut Prince. Heavily stylized with flourishes of impressive editing and an energetic soundtrack fluctuating between hypnotic electro beats, crooning vintage tracks, and a synthesized menace promising more detrimental events than the film actually delivers, this exploration of life in Amsterdam’s low income housing projects recalls the influences of works by Refn and Antonio Campos, at least as far its power for brooding male leads struggling through an increasingly apathetic universe. Ultimately, de Jong proves to be less interested in the provocations his tone would otherwise indicate, surprisingly crafting a sweet natured portrait of conflicted adolescence.

Sure, 5 Seconds of Summer might be touring with One Direction, but hear them out: They are no boy band. After One Direction discovered the Australian pop-rockers - thanks to their impressive cover of Wheatus's "Teenage Dirtbag" - Harry Styles and his bandmates invited them onto their tour. "It was all very scary for us because we were a young rock band type of thing," drummer Ashton Irwin tells Radio Disney in an interview airing Aug 4 (6 p.m. Et/3 p.m. Pt). "We were very confused by why we would go on tour with One Direction in the first place because it was so different.

So, The Voice live shows are less than a week away. That probably means we should be whittling down some teams, doesn't it? Last night we found out who'd be on Team Kylie and Team Tom, so today it's all about Ricky and Will's acts. Who'd make it? Who wouldn't? Read on to find out...
Team Ricky
Ricky thinks he has the "strongest team" - which is just as well - and Will thinks he has something up his sleeve all the time "like a ninja". In his first meeting with his knockout team, Ricky congratulates them all and urges them to pick their songs carefully. It's clear that everyone is feeling 'quite nervous' and even Ricky confesses he's feeling terrified. So we should probably get going...

Director: Morgan Spurlock; Starring: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Simon Cowell; Running time: 92 mins; Certificate: PG
One Direction further their bid for world domination with the release of documentary This Is Us. Hardcore Directioners will no doubt lap up this 90-minute trip behind the scenes with Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn and Louis, but what about everybody else?
Super Size Me's Morgan Spurlock might be a promising choice as director, but there's none of that Oscar-nominated doc's sharp wit or inventiveness on show here. Instead we get a product that's sanitised, squeaky clean and so painfully afraid of controversy and revelation. Spurlock has railed against the man in the past, yet here he's jumped straight into bed with him, staying rigidly on message with Simon Cowell and the Syco team.
This Is Us charts the group's formation on The X Factor and their fast rise to arena tour superstardom.

Harry Styles almost did some damage to his famous hairdo during One Direction's July 13th show at Chicago's First Midwest Bank Amphitheater. In a video of the boys' performance of "Teenage Dirtbag" taken by a fan and posted online, Styles can be seen getting a little too close to one of the onstage fire effects at the end of the song. But not to worry, 1D fans. Zayn Malik was there to save him from any injury. In the clip, Styles, dressed in a white shirt and black skinny jeans, throws a white towel over his head before walking with his head down towards the fire at the back of the stage. That's when Malik rushes over to his fellow boybander to guide him away from the shooting...

Thank goodness Harry’s bandmates always have his back — and hair! Zayn is officially our new hero.
We all know Harry Styles’ hair is hot, but it almost caught on fire at One Direction‘s Chicago concert July 14! Thankfully, his bandmate Zayn Malik saved the day.
Zayn Saves Harry From Fire
After performing “Teenage Dirtbag,” Harry took a break and wiped the sweat off his head with a towel — but he almost walked into a pyrotechnic torch that was lit during the song!
Fortunately, Zayn proved to be a knight in shining armor for Harry, as he grabbed Harry before his hair literally caught on fire. (Bandmates are always good to have around, Harry!)
This incident is eerily reminiscent of when King-of-Pop Michael Jackson’s hair caught on fire while filming a Pepsi commercial in front of fans in 1984. Thankfully, this had a better outcome!

The five boy wonders of One Direction may have become pros at the whole internationally touring thing, but that doesn't mean they don't slip up from time to time.
During last week's show in the UK city of Cardiff, One Direction performed a cover of Wheatus' 2000 hit, "Teenage Dirtbag." The performance came to a halt, however, when singer Louis Tomlinson forgot the lyrics to the song.
In the shoddy video (shown above), Tomlinson steps forward to sing a line of "Teenage Dirtbag" before stopping and saying, "Okay, I just forgot the lyrics. I'm not even going to pretend I know them." When prompted, Tomlinson picks the song back up, before celebrating by raising his fist in the air and shouting, "Yeah!"
Not wanting to disappoint, mid-song he apologizes, "Sorry, Cardiff."
Tomlinson took to his Twitter after that evening to address the show.

A recent study by doctors Alisun Pawley and Daniel Mullensiefen seeks to answer the question: Why do we sing along to certain pop songs and not others?
Pawley, a teacher, musicologist and musician who just wrapped a tour of Sweden with the Blossom Street Singers, said this is the first study of its kind, and it's taken her and Mullensiefen about six years to finalize the data.
"I originally got this idea by wondering whether pop songs were written specifically so amateur singers could sing along with them," she said. "But that definitely wasn't the case."
To research the project, Pawley spent 30 nights "undercover" at clubs and bars in the U.K., factoring in variables like time of night, proximity to a big city, vocal performance, lyric intelligibility and gender. She attended 1,050 "song events" and analyzed 636 songs. The study is expected to be published later this year in the Music Perception journal.

As the Camden indie rock crowd brings out ‘next big thing’ after ‘next big thing’ and fails time after time to bring anything of any real substance, Tribes with their brand of grunge meets Britpop seem to be ‘the next big next big thing’. They’ve appeared on countless lists, had a years’ worth of festival shows, support slots, and radio appearances. They come from Camden and list Nirvana and The Pixies as influences and seem to be cool by definition. On the release of their first album ‘Baby’, the question is asked: are they any good?

When Martin Scorsese taps you to star in his movie, yeah, you're pretty awesome. When it's his first 3-D family movie, you've gotta brush your shoulders off. Asa Butterfield stars as Hugo Cabret in "Hugo," Scorsese's extravaganza that's got critics raving (and wiping away a tear or two when no one's looking). This adaptation of Brian Selznick's book is an ode to moviemaking that only Scorsese could pull off, and Asa Butterfield is in almost every fabulous scene.

Accusations will always follow Sonisphere festival – usually aimed from those most preposterously pretentious metal fans who frequent supposedly non-mainstream festivals like Bloodstock – that Sonisphere is little more than a sell-out event, aimed at watered-down metal fans of pop-edged bands who have long since let go their grip on creative integrity in favour of the almighty dollar.
