Interesting 'making of' tribute

Fans of The Sound of Music will delight in finding out all sorts of backstage details about both the movie and the original stage production - which turns out was based on another movie! In this tv documentary, My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers, we see interviews from Julie, Christopher Plummer, Charmain Carr, Robert Wise, and also one of the von Trapp children. Learning how the family truly escaped from Switzerland is pretty funny. Seeing all the attention to detail Robert Wise put into the production, and especially the "Do-Re-Mi" number, is quite remarkable. I'll never watch the bicycle snippet the same way again.

Rehearsal and backstage footage, photographs of the real Maria von Trapp interacting with Julie and Robert, and a sweet story about writing "Edelweiss", all will stick in your heart. Although, I still maintain that had Curd Jurgens been cast as Captain von Trapp, there wouldn't have been a dry eye in the house when he sang "Edelweiss".

For a perfect pairing, watch this tv special back-to-back with The Untold Story of The Sound of Music. They do overlap a little bit, like the "rescuing Gretel" story in the canoe scene, but they're both delightful, and they both show that after 40 or 50 years, the movie and the songs are still loved by all ages in countries all around the world.
