A bit too much...
Just-A-Girl-149 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The topic chosen for this episode is a very important one! It's not a filler episode. It's a real issue! According to Blue H.E.L.P. (a nonprofit that works to reduce stigmas tied to mental health issues for those in law enforcement), the number of US police officers died by suicide in 2019 rose to 228 (a 32% jump from the previous year). Those numbers speak for themselves. It's a lot of lives lost. A lot of pain and suffering that we should pay attention to and find a way to prevent. With that said, I think SVU took it a little too far. Three cops died this episode. It all started with a rape and a coverup. I don't think it was the right way to go. This issue needs to be more explored. Why so many deaths? Why isn't anyone doing something about it. Benson's psychiatrist was a nice touch. Cops should be able to talk to someone. The job is hard. Real hard and as if that's not enough, people don't show them enough appreciation or respect.

I am also not happy about the way they chose to write Tucker off. It was respectful but unnecessary. First Benson's brother Simon and now Ed Tucker. It's like Benson must be miserable all the time. As opposed to many, I actually liked her relationship with Tucker. I was rooting for them. Now I just think they should just let her be and focus on the job. Good effort but It was a bit too much imho.

A Lot of Rain in One Place

Warning: Spoilers
I never liked Tucker. I can't see how anyone who followed the show from the beginning even could, tbh, however- I felt that the way they wrote him out was fitting and respectful. I certainly was never on board with Liv/Tucker as a couple, but even their scenes together in this episode were heartfelt and genuine.

Mariska's acting gets better and better with age, like fine wine. It was a powerful way to punctuate the topic of mental health in police work. Over the last four or five years, the writers put a lot of effort into trying to redeem Tucker as a character, and this episode finally succeeded in getting me on board, at least a little.

Great acting, tasteful handling of a character death. One of my top favorites for this season.

Good Bye Ed Tucker
yazguloner21 May 2021
The happiness, unhappiness, guilt, regret, and the whole life of a law enforcement are told. In short, it is said that he is also a human being, has feelings. Ed Tucker is at the center of the story.

It is a sad homage to Ed Tucker's long adventure since 2002.

Within the force of law, there is also the situation of concealing and uncovering crimes. It is emphasized that the helping power should not be afraid to ask for help and not be afraid of their feelings.

This situation was combined with "police suicides".

Referance can be watched, 7 season 4 episode ripped.

The Longest Night of Rain
bobcobb3012 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Was it a good episode? Certainly not, but we've seen worse.

The show just doesn't know what it is doing right now. Tackling identity and memory issues would be relevant and timely, but they did it in a very boring way.

Mental Health is important
militarychic31 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
After reading the reviews posted about this episode, and after watching this episode, people need to learn that mental health is very important. This wasn't a "filler" episode. Just like the military, law enforcement aren't robots. They see things, and things happen in their lives where they feel they have no help and no where to turn.

Zero actual story.
starswithnolight2 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Since the character who starts the story off isn't known, to anyone, before offing themselves less than five minutes in, this episode was super confusing trying to pull heartstrings and emotion. When the second character takes their life, there's almost no effort to make them more endearing, but at least now we pick up on the suicide route, which, truthfully, is a super huge issue, but, L&O bumbles and fumbles about here with so little tact it's astonishing, but not surprising. Olivia bursting into a therapists office demanding he break confidentiality is really gross when she doesn't even know what is going on. But it's ultra gross how they spend their time shredding down on Ed Tucker (wow, I really just typed those words) but to spend years, literally years, making people hate the straight cop, make people disdain this character, to then flip the table, try to turn him into a positive, use him that way only to then, flip the coin again and kill him this way... it's horrendous. I am sorry for whatever happened to officer Wilson. Whatever made her take her life, and whatever she lived through, I'm sorry for the other officer who was worried about his dirty laundry being aired, but trying to conflate these types of stories and link them with a terminal diagnosis driven suicide is misleading. Make the character look like like they do some final undercover and just eke it out like that because they're oh so ill... but then he's got the mind to go ahead and settle himself like that. Just isn't how it works. It's also out of character for a person killing themselves because of another diagnosis to use their weapon because they're not trying to hurt anyone else or make a mess. A man in that situation is far more likely to select a much more tame method to spare the people they love. And people who do it aren't selfish or terrible, they just don't want to hurt anymore, they don't want to spread the suffering. So using him to literally do that in the end and simply spread the suffering around, using old accusations, and trying to blame that character at first, is antithetical to his end anyway. Good God... I hate when Olivia goes sniffing and barging into situations like she did in this episode and then does immediately in the beginning of the next. Ah, binge watching.

This show has really gone down hill
fbupdates131 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had high hopes after the first episode of this season but they've gone steadily downhill. First off, I've always like Mariska Hargitay but her acting lately is just awful. If you go back and watch old episodes it's like she's phoning it in and awkward now. She looks terrible. Old and tired and she's clearly put on weight which they try to cover up by having her always wear a coat or jacket so it's supposedly not noticeable. But it is. I've seen her own pictures on social media and she looks much better.

Then they bring Ed Tucker back just to kill him off. The same thing they did with her brother Simon. Why not let her be happy for once? They killed her mother way back in season 2 and ruined every relationship she tried to have. I'm no fan of Tucker and Robert John Burke is a terrible actor but this was more like a soap opera.

Kelli Giddish looks anorexic and not just since that thing with Bucci. She's pale as a ghost now. It's like the hair and make up people don't even try with her and Hargitay. I know they're cops but that doesn't mean they can't look halfway decent. They used to. Their hair is always a mess. I don't get it.

I just think this show is done.

Ridiculous Episode
marysammons-422202 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been awful. The writing is terrible. Mariska Hargitay's acting is terrible.

But on to the episode. The could've done this without Ed Tucker. I've never liked him and Robert John Burke is a lousy actor. Anyway, Olivia gives him the kiss off in season 18 using Noah as her excuse and Tucker's desire to retire. She treated him like crap and never appeared to give him another thought. Like all the men she's dumped. So, like her brother Simon, who she also treated like crap, she boohoos over Tucker's death. His death was unnecessary to the story and it was only used so poor Olivia would cry. Also, who cares about Kat's old boss.

If they wanted to do a story about suicide, fine. But this was a terrible story.

Melodramatic Send Off for a Bizarre Relationship
bkkaz16 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ed Tucker kills himself -- and the episode is all about Benson. Figure that one out. Yes, their relationship was always weird, as they had nothing in common except the job, though he did look sorta like Stabler with the long head. That wasn't missed on some viewers.

This episode happens during SVU's heavily melodramatic phase, where the plots are dumbed way down and the cheesy emotions are amped up so you're not sure if you're watching NBC or the Hallmark Channel.

And what is it about Benson not understanding boundaries? She's constantly sleeping with coworkers and superiors, yet pontificates to others about transgressing ethics. Her character is a constant example of hypocritical do as I say and not as I do. Too bad the series doesn't have the courage to address Benson's stunning double standards.

The message about suicide hotline at the end seems especially tacked on, not because it isn't important but because Tucker's demise happens off screen. In fact, episode spends so little time on his character, we get his story mostly from Benson's expository dialogue telling us what happened to Tucker.

I get that SVU wants to make every episode the Benson hour, with occasional dips into the Rollins hour or whatever, but really, such a poorly constructed and executed episode. Tucker may have been a pinhead, but he deserved a better send off than an episode like this.
