Christopher Daniel Barnes: Ross Harper

Quotes

  • Ross Harper : Oh no, it's starting.

    Brian Harper : What's starting?

Ross Harper : The wave of insanity that sweeps this family every Christmas. We're dressing up funny, we have enough lights on the front of the house to safely navigate an aircraft! And soon, Grandma's fruitcake baked in 1956 will be taken out of the freezer, briefly worshiped and then returned to its crypt!

  • Eileen Swift : All this Christmas cheer doesn't do much to turn my crank!

Ross Harper : You're missing the whole point of the Christmas spirit, Eileen.

    Kate Harper : Which is?

Ross Harper : The TV specials! Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty the Snowman! And my favorite, A Very Very Knight Rider Christmas.

Brian Harper : We've done a fine job, Kate.

  • Kristin Carlson : In the Carlson family, the big dinner happens on the eve of Christmas Eve. It's a celebration of all the Danish traditions.

Ross Harper : Bring it on! It could actually be quite humorous!

  • Kate Harper : Hi, Ross. How was school?

Ross Harper : Less than stellar, mom. Not a single female went near my mistletoe, except the school nurse, who kept bumping into me as if it were a coincidence.

Kate Harper : Well, looks like you found your special someone.

Ross Harper : That's disgusting, mom!

  • Kristin Carlson : Okay everyone, it's time for the famous Carlson Eve of Christmas Eve Dinner!

[the Harpers look at the food with disgust]

Kate Harper : Um... Eileen's not here yet.

    Kristin Carlson : Well, tough!

Ross Harper : Well, that's certainly in keeping with the Christmas spirit.

Kristin Carlson : Well I'm sorry, but in the Carlson household, the famous Eve of Christmas Eve dinner commences promptly at seven! The Danish are known for their punctuality.

Ross Harper : As well as for their great sense of humor.

    [everyone laughs]

    Kristin Carlson : I don't get it.

  • Kristin Carlson : Part of Danish lore says that at Christmas time, gremlins can be very nasty, so at this dinner it's important that everyone be very nice to the gremlins.

    [to Eileen]

Ross Harper : Oh, it's your lucky day!

  • Brian Harper : I guess we just didn't realize how much her family traditions mean to her and we acted like a bunch of jerks.

Ross Harper : But Dad, that's one of OUR family traditions.
